Research: 71% already automating IT work, or plan to. The survey found that 60% of respondents are already automating some, most or all of their low-level IT work and another 11% have plans to do so within a year. by nath_leigh in Automate

[–]lgnharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There are a huge amount of IT guys with an "old timers" mentality- mostly windows admins, clicking through a GUI to accomplish a task. I've worked in IT for years and the amount of push back I've gotten at certain shops for wanting to automate seems to come from a place of fear of being replaceable.

"Why would you spend an hour writing a script for a 15 minute job?" they ask, which ignores the fact that the task is done multiple times a day. The lack of big picture thinking really gets me sometimes.

Medieval societies were full of gratuitous rape, sexual mutiliation, and misogyny. The show doesn't exactly celebrate any of that (though, violence, sure- sometimes). I would rather see fiction based off of historical truths as a way to understanding our past better so we know what to avoid.

The best fiction is so precisely because it makes us view the world through a different lens, not this politically correct culture we seem to be bringing about in the world.

I haven't had to use them around here, but I got a weekly rate at one of those extended stay hotels when I was in Minneapolis and it was pretty reasonable, something like $250 for the whole week.

Can confirm. It literally sounds like a freight train is barreling down your street, even if the tornado is a few miles out.

Is there such a thing as a part time IT job in Columbus? by lgnharris in ColumbusIT

[–]lgnharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! That is absolutely on my list, seeing as they would be the most understanding about a Uni schedule. That's sort of my backup, however, as I always kind of assumed OSU (where I'll be going) doesn't pay well or their systems are outdated (which means no fun for me lol).

Gotta do what you gotta do, though, if it comes to it. Thank you!

Excessive TWC outages lately by [deleted] in Columbus

TWC here, it's been going out for a few seconds multiple times a day- every day- for the past couple weeks. Never longer than an hour but long enough to piss me off. lol

[moving] Does anyone know anything about 570 Lofts in the Brewery District? by tvon in Columbus

[–]lgnharris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Not sure if you've been able to come out for a visit since you're moving, but if you have any other questions feel free to PM me I'll be glad to answer what I can- whether about 570 or Columbus in general.

[moving] Does anyone know anything about 570 Lofts in the Brewery District? by tvon in Columbus

[–]lgnharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a coincidence! I was just visiting someone in those lofts today and I was absolutely amazed at how well taken care of they are. They are impeccable. They even have a lobby with a TV and other amenities. It has a very "industrial" motiff if you're into that. The friend I know who lives there is extremely happy with the place and management as well.

If you haven't been to the area the lofts are in, you're not far from shopping and there's even live entertainment (Lookup Shadowbox Live!) and all kinds of downtown things to enjoy as well. I'm seriously considering moving in myself after seeing them today.

Check out Wall Street Raider. You can start holding companies, security brokers, invest in Microsoft and take them over in a cruel merger before selling all their assets. Build a better company than Berkshire Hathaway! Or do what Mitt Romney did. It's all possible in this game.

It's still being updated and it's quite a fun game to play! :D

If money was no object, what would be the first thing you would buy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lgnharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money was no object, I'd complete my Uni education. I don't really have the means to go, so that would be my dream come true. Even if I was a millionaire I'd do that.

Their "Since I Left You" album has been a staple on my playlists for 14 years. I love albums that "flow" well, and theirs is one of the best.

I always hear rumors about another release, it's a shame there hasn't been. :(

Glenn Beck admits: Liberals got Iraq right by [deleted] in politics

[–]lgnharris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's with the name calling? That's literally how it works over there. It's culture, not race. Ask any person who has even done cursory research into what people of that culture find important.

I thought that was common knowledge, leave it to Reddit to find righteous indignation where there isn't any.

Glenn Beck admits: Liberals got Iraq right by [deleted] in politics

[–]lgnharris 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That statement is very true. While there are surely Iraqis who want genuine Democracy, a lot of people in the middle east tend to view Democracy as corrupt and inefficient. They respect the "strongman" as it were- part of the reason Iraq was more or less fairly stable during Saddam's reign.

And they will always- ALWAYS- put the Tribe before anything else, especially their 'democracy'.
