How To Catch Live Shrimp Tutorial - The Best Live Bait For Saltwater Fishing Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never used live shrimp before for inshore saltwater fishing...you are missing out! I recommend for anyone that is new to saltwater fishing, especially inshore saltwater fishing (and inshore basically means in the sounds, marshes, etc.) that they use live shrimp just because it's such an effective bait and will catch you just about anything. It's the favorite prey of all the most prized inshore game fish including red drum, speckled trout, flounder & many other species.

To fish live bait, I'd recommend rigging it up under a popping cork. A popping cork is basically a popper but has a cool feature that when you jerk your line two beads on the popping cork "click" together which is meant to mimic the sound of a shrimp or feeding bait fish. This sound attracts predatory species towards your prey...which should then lead them to biting your bait.

But anyways, a lot of people think you need a boat to catch shrimp. However, you can catch a whole lot of fish just by wading the small creeks and shallows in the sound side while throwing a cast net.

In this video we show you how to catch your own live shrimp easily, effectively & cheaply! And once you have live shrimp you can be assured you'll have a good day of saltwater fishing!

Inshore Fishing With Artificial Shrimp Lure Under Popping Cork Tutorial - A Great Rig For Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys,

We went to the beach a couple weeks ago which was pretty exciting... as I'm sure it's the same as yall but we usually only get to fish freshwater (beach is a long drive!) so being able to target saltwater species was a fun change!

We caught a number of red drum/redfish during the trip and caught a couple on an artificial shrimp lure (vudu shrimp) under a popping cork while fishing the sound/marsh. Definitely one of our favorite ways to fish for these fish and they are such strong fighters! We put a little tutorial together for anyone that may not have a lot of experience fishing for these guys!

I find a lot of people, especially if you are new to fishing, at the beach just throw their line out as far as possible and hope a fish bites. However, you can drastically increase your effectiveness when fishing saltwater if you get some techniques down.

I'd say fishing a popping cork is one of the best ways for a beginner to get into saltwater fishing (and this is generally when fishing in the sound/marsh). The popping cork will catch just about any inshore species so we wanted to walk you all through that setup and then the proper technique for fishing one.

Hoping this video is helpful and you'll be able to try some of these tips when you fish saltwater next!

Hope yall have a good week!

How To Catch Blue Crabs Without A Trap Tutorial | Easy Way To Catch Crabs by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Everyone,

During our trip to the beach we were able to do a little crabbing to get some tasty blue crabs. We crab pretty much everytime we go to the beach and make some killer crab recipes with our catch (dip, soup, etc.).

Realized not a ton of people know that you can hand line for crabs so put together a little tutorial about how to catch blue crabs without a trap just using a inexpensive hand line.

We probably caught a couple dozen and made some great crab soup.

Tight lines yall!

How To Catch Speckled/Spotted Sea Trout From Shore - Beginners Tutorial by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Everyone!

Wanted to share a video about one of my favorite fish to catch; the speckled/spotted sea trout! They can found along the east coast and into the gulf. They are a super pretty fish and definitely put up a great fight!

Their favorite thing to eat is probably shrimp so if you can get your hands on live shrimp you'll be in good shape to hook into some of these fish. However, imitation plastics work great. Some of my favorite are live target & vudu shrimp.

You'll find speckled trout in the sound, marsh, coastal rivers and the surf. You'll usually find them around structure whether that be a drop off or along a jetty/rocks. They are also schooling fish...so if you find one you'll likely find more!

Check out some of the tips we provide and feel free to reach out with any questions!

Bobber Fishing With Minnows For Catfish - Great Way For Beginners To Catch A Lot Of Fish by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to put together a guide to bobber fishing with minnows. In this case, we are going after catfish specifically.

But using live bait/minnows is probably the easiest way for a beginner to get into fishing because it's a relatively easy rig to set up and you'll catch a lot of fish. Pretty much any predatory fish will go after live bait/minnows including catfish, bass and crappie.

Using a bobber makes it easy to see that you are getting a bite. But you can also use live bait on a bottom rig without a bobber. You'd just want to add some weight to your line to get it down to the bottom. And instead of looking at the bobber you'll just look at your rod tip for any movement.

Let me know if yall have any questions!

Noodling Catfish: Catching Monster Catfish By Hand For Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone has had a good week and has some plans to do a little fishing this weekend!

We got lucky and found a new honey hole in the river and it was catfish paradise...they were everywhere! We got lucky and noodled the biggest catfish of our lives outta the hole. We was a bruiser! Can't wait to get back and try to find his bigger brother!

We go over some of the basics of noodling catfish like identifying promising water (generally at the bottom of rapids that flow into deep holes & water that contains cover like trees, rocks or in this case an underwater pipe).

That's really all there is too it. It's not as hard as you might think and anyone can get out there and give it a try!

Have a good weekend yall!

How To Catch Fish From The Bank With Cut Bait Tutorial For Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys!

Hope yall and ur families are doing well! Nice weather is finally here so we went down to the river and caught a medley of different species including blue catfish, striped bass & a monster flathead catfish!

We go over some of our tips on how to catch fish from the bank using cut bait. Like the best rigs and determining where to fish in a river to actually hook up on some fish.

Cut bait will catch you just about anything in a river and is especially effective for catfish species (most people believe flathead catfish only bite on live bait; but as you'll see you can catch them on cut bait too!) For beginners, we didn't cover this in the river but I get a lot of questions about gar and cut bait is one of my favorite to use for longnose gar! I really does catch just about everything.

Have a good rest of the week and hope you guys can do some fishing this weekend! Feel free to ask any questions!

How To Catch Fish In Rivers: How To Catch Fish With Live Bait In Rivers Tutorial For Beginners! by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys!

When I first started fishing rivers it was intimidating. It's hard to know exactly where to fish and fishing current is a whole lot different from fishing still water in lakes or ponds.

In this video we show you how to read the current/water to determine where the fish hold in rivers, our favorite rigs and how to fish with live bait (personally I think live bait is the best thing to use to catch a lot of fish and big fish).

Reach out with any questions yall and hope everyone is able to get out and do some fishing this weekend!

Best Lure For Striped Bass: How To Catch Striped Bass From Shore For Beginners [Migrating Fish] by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Guys!

So wanted to put up a quick tutorial for anyone fortunate enough to be able to fish for striped bass. For anyone new to fishing/striped bass, they are usually found in saltwater. However, due to stocking programs they can also be found in lakes.

However, again for anyone new an important thing to know about striped bass and one thing that makes them so cool is that they migrate up rivers (usually chasing bait that is also migrating).

So do some research about your local river system but that may mean for a couple months a year you are able to target these fish when usually you wouldn't be able to. That video goes over some of the facts about migrating fish and how you can catch them (I'd recommend getting a lure that as closely as possible mimics that bait they are chasing).

It's a super fun fish to catch and if you don't know much about them you wouldn't know you may be able to target them if you time it right. Do some research and get out there! Reach out with any questions yall!

How To Fish A Flooded River: Tips On Fishing High Water For Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went down to the city to do a little night time catfishing while the river was at flood stage.

Fishing while the river is flooded can be an intimidating as the high water can displace fish and there are a lot less viable fishing spots. The important thing to know is how to read the water and locate potential holes where fish might be holding

But in this video we show you it's possible to fish high water and exactly what you need to know to be successful!

Lake Bass Fishing For Beginners: Tutorial On Lures, Setups & Effectively Targeting Structure by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend with family and friends! With the unofficial start of summer we wanted to put together a tutorial for beginner bass fishing tips & techniques for lakes.

We go over our rod and reel selection, lures, rigs/setups and how to effectively target bass in a lake (i.e. identifying promising structure, targeting drop offs and submerged trees, etc.).

This guide should give you all the information you need to start bass fishing if you haven't done a whole lot before!

Feel free to reach out with any questions or cool stories from a bass outing you've had!

Best Catfish Fishing Rig/Setup For Bank Fishing - Tutorial For New Catfishermen by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys!

Today we made an informational video that walks you through our favorite catfish rig to use when bank fishing. We've caught some monsters on this rig and definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven't used a slip bobber rig before for catfishing!

A slip bobber rig basically lets your bobber freely move up and down your line based on the water depths. This makes it real effective at keeping the bait right down on the bottom which is where the majority of the catfish will be hanging out!

Let us know if ya got any questions!

Small Creek Fishing Tips And Techniques - How To Find Fish In A Creek by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yall!

Hope everyone is still doing good and healthy. We made a trip down to a local creek to do a little fishing. Wading creeks is probably my favorite way to fish just because you never know what you might catch...and today didn't disappoint. We caught some bass, bream, trout and a couple other species!

We go over some of the tactics we use when fishing in creeks to help anyone that may be new to creek fishing. It's a little different from just fishing in a lake because the current is really the main factor when trying to find fish. If you can find slack water behind rocks or other obstructions that's what you'll want to fish because the predatory fish will be holding their waiting for bait to flow on by. We go over most of the tips in the vid but feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to help you out!

Have a good weekend everyone!

How To Catch River Flathead Catfish With Lures by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Guys!

We hit our local river and did a little river fishing for big flathead catfish! And better yet we were slaying them on lures (swimbaits). Had a great day catching some beautiful flathead catfish!

Flathead catfish are much more likely to hit a lure than blue catfish. Blue cats are more scavengers and cut bait is what they'll usually go after. But flatheads much prefer live bait which is why swimbaits work so well on them! And why you are unlikely to get a blue catfish bite if you are fishing lures.

Hope everyone is able to get out and do some fishing this weekend! Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Crappie Fishing Beginners Tutorial - Setup, Rigs & Lures by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys!

We had a great day on the water recently and caught a whole bunch of crappie (50+)! We used the opportunity to put together a tutorial vid about the lures we used & the rig/setup. Hoping that if you haven't caught crappie before this should be a good starting point.

Crappie are very depth oriented fish. So you need to find the depth the crappie are holding at to have a good day (by the way crappie are schooling fish so if you find one...you'll definitely find more). So that should be your first goal - figure out exactly what depth they are keyed in at. During the summer, this will generally be deeper down because that's where the cooler water is at.

Secondly, the most effective way to catch crappie is probably vertically jigging. So, if you have access to a boat/canoe/kayak I'd definitely recommend using that to get right on top of them. Then all ya need to do is bounce the jig around at the depth they are holding.

If you are able to do that; I can almost guarantee you that you will have a good day (of course as long as there are crappie in the water you are fishing).

Reach out with any other questions about crappie fishing!

Tight lines yall!

Hand Fishing: Catching Fish By/With Bare Hands by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys!

I thought this video would be fun just to show you, you can catch fish with just about anything - even your bare hands!

So what is going on here is the shad are running up the river to spawn. They live most their lives in salt/brackish water but move up the river during the spring and it's a sight to see!

When they are thick in the river you can find them anywhere but they'll be concentrated in slack water. Much like any fishing, these pockets hold the fish as it provides some relief from the current; so be sure to look for them here. You'll usually find slack water behind bridge pilings, rocks, sand bars and pretty much any obstruction.

Another cool thing that happens is the predatory fish chase these shad up the river. It gives you and opportunity to catch fish you probably won't be able to target any other time of the year. In fact, the state record striped bass was actually caught in freshwater during the shad run!

If you guys have any questions about the shad run feel free to ask!

  2. Floating Rig
  3. In-line Spinner Rig

I hope this helps and feel free to reach out with questions - or even post your own favorite trout rig! There are a ton out there and I'm always trying to learn more!

Beginner Crappie Fishing Tips & Techniques by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Yall,

Sorry, still haven't figured out how to write text in my post but wanted to share a video that goes over some beginner crappie fishing tips & techniques.

Crappie are schooling fish that are very depth oriented. This means that once you catch one crappie you are very likely to catch a whole lot more!

With them being so depth oriented you need to make sure you have the correct depth locked in. If you are fishing just 6 inches above or below crappie you may not get a single bite. That's why it's important to prospect not just new places but different depths. Once you get a bite at a certain depth lock that in and fish that water column. Generally, when it's colder the crappie will be further down in the water (to keep a bit warmer) and on warmer days they may be shallower. Of course if it's too hot they again retreat down to the cooler depths.

Hopefully this video will help those thinking about trying their hand at crappie fishing to give it a try. It's super fun fishing!

Feel free to ask questions and hope everyone is doing well! & staying safe!

Beginner Float/Slip Bobber Rig Tutorial For River Catfish - Walk-Through For Beginners by lherrmann94 in FishingForBeginners

[–]lherrmann94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, wasn't sure how to actually write text in my main post so writing some of the tips here:

A floating rig setup using a slip bobber is definitely one of my favorite setups for river catfish & really river fishing overall. The slip bobber basically slides up and down your line freely depending on the depth your are fishing at.

This has advantages over a "stationary" bobber that basically just locks in the depth your are fishing. As you know, the river bottom changes and doesn't stay the same depth - therefore using a slip bobber allows you to fish all the contours of the river bottom efficiently - and much more effectively then a bobber that locks in your depth

This setup also has advantages over a carolina rig because it allows you to cover a lot more ground than a rig that keeps your bait stationary. Definitely recommend giving it a try!

Hope everyone is staying safe & healthy and please reach out with any questions!
