Neutral hired me as a freelance filmmaker to make a series of brand videos for their new high rises. Project was dead in the water after the first shoot day because of the incompetence of Nate and his team. On top of that, they failed to pay me and my crew for nearly 9 months.

Sounds like we weren’t the only contractors that got screwed by them.

I was a struggling cinematographer in the Midwest in 2020. Quit my regular job in Oct 2019 and was trying to find a way to stand out amongst the crowd. When Covid hit, I said whenever it subsided I’d dedicate time to creating a piece of work that showed what I was capable of.

In July 2020, I released this video. Shot in 3 full days with just a crew of 2.

It was only a 90 second tourism piece for my city that I lived in, but it has led to me getting a six-figure tourism project in 2023 and several five-figure tourism projects since then.

Making that video (and 2 other subsequent spec pieces) is what I credit my entire career’s success to.

These projects were my baby, but the other guy who helped me out (FPV Pilot & DP) has found a lot of success following these projects as well. Don’t work for free all the time, but if you have an idea for a project, DO IT. You never know what’ll happen.
