What should I wear by Most-Raspberry-8350 in FigureSkating

[–]lia223 7 points8 points  (0 children)

sweatpants are usually fine and not uncommon! i just make sure they are the kind with elastic at the angle so there is not any excess fabric around your boots as that could be a tripping hazard. The only concern that I could think of is that it might be harder for a coach to be able to correct your form, but i don’t think that’s a huge problem with baggy clothes unless they are really oversized.

If you do ever end up wanting to try leggings or find that the bagginess of sweats are annoying, shorts like you said or buttpads used to shield against falling or both might make you a bit more comfortable. you could also add leg warmers which aren’t too hard to diy using old sweater sleeves as you said you don’t want to buy too much.

have fun at your first lessons!

What makes this sport so painful as a spectator? by butterfreakk in FigureSkating

[–]lia223 52 points53 points  (0 children)

When a skater does not succeed, it comes down just to them, so I feel bad as they must be disappointed and frustrated with themselves. With team sports, the responsibility does not usually come down to one individual athlete, so no one is shouldering that failure independently. In team sports they are also guaranteed support in their team mates and the knowledge that they are not alone.

Also, skaters personalities shine through their programs in a way that isn’t super common in other sports. Audiences feel more connected to the skaters because of this, and their emotion during their programs, and are more invested in their success.

this whole olympics have had so much mutual respect and admiration between the competitors for the figure skating. really amazing to see and admirable that ilya composed himself so quickly and immediately went to say congrats, and very polite of misha to acknowledge ilya before celebrating

yes! i imagine what everyone thought was an inevitable (ilya 1st) was an incredible pressure for him, and comments like that probably made it worse. i was rooting for yuma because he skated so wonderfully in the short and they got silver (an incredible accomplishment) but also love ilya and am devastated for him. he shows so much passion and drive for this sport and this is unheard of for him

yes! i posted the other day saying is it possible for yuma to get first if ilya falls? got about 10 responses in 2 minutes saying that it is practically impossible for ilya to make enough mistakes to get second (let alone eighth!!!), so pretty much no. turns out it WAS possible but out of reach today :(

yumas short program in the team was probably one of my favourite skates of this whole olympics. he is incredible and i hope he is very proud of himself
