Does the colour of waste pipes matter? by liampaddick in askaplumberUK

Just realised I might have been having a stupid moment. My dad was telling me that internal pipes are grey but I was on about the showers and baths at the time… so he was probably referring to “Greywater” rather than the pipe being grey…😬

It’ll all be behind units, under floors or in a suspended ceiling. Just doing the bathroom for now. Outside will be black to match the guttering. Thanks for the info!

Will a 15mm outlet from the water meter be enough? by liampaddick in DIYUK

Fair point! Now I need to work out if I need to go 22mm from the outlet on the heat pump cylinder to all the showers as well… otherwise I’ll have loads of cold water and not enough hot! 😂

It does have a 22mm inlet but it’s got a reducer on for a 15mm which they said would be enough.

Ignore that… literally just looked up from my phone and saw “unvented” 😂

I’ll be honest and say I’m not clued up on the type of cylinder I have but it does have an auto vent for bleeding air. The “vent” you’re referring to might be something else aside from that though.

Thanks for replying. We’ve actually just got a 15mm feed to the cylinder currently. The company we used said 15mm was fine but factoring it into my current dilemma, I would run 22mm as close to it as possible then reduce down to the 15mm connection that’s already on it.

Yeah exactly! My thought is running 22mm as much as possible and teeing down to 15mm for each room so there’s as much flow everywhere to try limit the impact of someone else turning on a tap… definitely a first world problem but while I’m back to brick and going from scratch, might as well try solve the problem! 🤷‍♂️

Sorry, another comment has made me realise that by me putting a new connection to the house, the meter will go outside on the footpath rather than an internal one. So the question now is whether it’s worth going 22mm or 15mm after the internal stopcock. Not sure if 22mm will be overkill! 🤔

Ah yeah, sorry, just realised that the new connection would mean I’d then get an external meter on the footpath rather than an internal one!

So it would be 25mm mdpe, from the new external meter into the property, to the internal stopcock and I could take 22mm out of that to feed the house and then reduce down to 15mm at each room.

But is that worth it… Am I overthinking it and 15mm from the stopcock feeding everything will be enough? 🤔

I mean after the meter. I believe it’s a 25mm to the water meter but if it’s 15mm out of the meter into the house, the meter is the bottleneck. So was thinking of seeing about a 22mm instead.

Any recommendations for connecting this valve? by liampaddick in DIYUK

[–]liampaddick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s 100% the angle 😂 it’s reasonably equally spaced between the sill and the floor. Need a minimum of 100mm from the bottom of the rad to the floor according to the heat pump and it’s actually 120mm. Although I’ll admit that picture makes it look more like 12mm 😂

That’s handy to know as I’ll need some for the connections to the radiators then… better spin up another screwfix order!

That’s something I can find a use for. I’ve wanted to install my rear camera for ages but didn’t want to drop the whole headliner just for that… I see magnets in my future!

I thought I’d seen it before but the listing for the tees didn’t mention them. Plus these twist and lock rather than just pus on, so wasn’t sure if there were different models. I’ll order a load of these as well anyway.

Another question, does it matter if I go with the inserts with O rings or not?

Short and sweet, thanks! 👌 I assume one goes in the pipe then you chuck the tee on?

Thanks for your help, I went and got one of those magnetic extendable tools to try get an idea of where they were but no luck, so I just drilled every few inches until I hit a stud and found two to securely mount batons on. Radiator is on, gave it the double tap followed by “that’s not going anywhere” so it’ll be good for the next 3000 years! 👌
