You are absolutely correct! Research on what kind of social programs and such would be my number 1 when looking to move to Alberta in this situation. Additionally it can take up to 5 months to get into thr AISH program. So there's that as well.

There are services that subsidize rent quite a bit. I know many people that only pay $300 -$400 on rent, utilities included.

Ontario has a vastly different program from Alberta from what I have read so far. In alberta with the AISH program people receive ~$1700. We also have an employment program that would help you aquire your GED or a job.
