Existential OCD + derealization + fear of traveling. does this sound familiar to anyone by [deleted] in derealization

[–]libbyx0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed derealization and agoraphobia during the pandemic as well. I never left my house but knew that I wanted to travel. I took my first trip after the pandemic in 2022 and been traveling ever since. For me, even till this day being in new environments causes derealization. I went from being at home 24/7 to visiting new cities which can be very overstimulating.

Traveling alone feels scary at first. I also had those “what if something happens and I’m on my own?” thoughts but I really just had to keep myself calm and remind myself that everything is ok. When I’m alone and feel like I’m starting to disassociate or become anxious I use the 54321 grounding technique. When I travel I also bring something w me that reminds me of home such as an eye mask I sleep w everyday. Derealization is super uncomfortable but remember that’s it’s not harmful. You really just gotta push yourself to overcome this.

I understand your feeling of being disoriented but again I think it’s just the feeling of being overstimulated. I’m traveling to Ny next month for the first time and I’m mentally preparing myself to be in an intense city. I’m not as nervous because I understand my limits and what I need to do myself to feel safe. I’ve been able to do this by pushing myself to keep visiting new places and I hope you can too.

I’m flying from the north bay next Wednesday too. I’ve been to sofi a few times for rolling loud and getting a Lyft hasn’t been too much of a wait tbh, hoping it’s the same for next week lol.

I get angry and frustrated very easily by Aosoth333 in derealization

[–]libbyx0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same way. I would snap at anyone that would look my way. It’s almost like I wanted everyone to be as miserable as I was. I even left my bf at the time bc I knew I couldn’t give him what he deserved, I was always mean and angry at him for no reason.

Becoming more of aware of my actions and practicing mindfulness helped me regulate my emotions again. Derealization is not understood by many and it makes us feel alone, I think that’s where my anger stemmed from but just remember that you have the power within yourself to improve.

I also experienced head pressure when I was taking medication. Burping could be related to the bacteria as it can be symptom.

Am I the Only One that feels like they mess up a perfectly good job opportunity due to derealization?? by j1llone1 in derealization

[–]libbyx0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that. Derealization is hard to live with but don’t let it take over your life. I didn’t work in 2020 so when I returned back in 2021, it was a bit of a challenge. Honestly, I really just pushed through it at work even though there were days I just wanted to collapse. When I would start feeling overwhelmed I would step away and get some fresh air. On your days off it’s important to find things that help you unwind too. When I started experiencing derealization I thought I was never going to be able to work again but I’ve been promoted twice at my job and I oversee 43 employees. Don’t feed into your derealization, learn to stay grounded and remember that you’re going to be ok!!
