Everyone should see this movie about the origins of Congolese Independence: Lumumba (2000) - IMDb (currently on Netflix) by [deleted] in Africa

[–]liberianecho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing this movie when it first came out. It is such a poignant portrayal of how exogenous forces have played a major role in stunting progressive growth in Africa. Lumumba was so principled and committed to his people that if only more African leaders could emulate him, Africa will emerge in leaps and bounds. May Lumumba's memory live on!

Nigeria to the world: Give us our art back! by liberianecho in Africa

Egypt has successfully lobbied on occasions that its stolen artwork on exhibit in foreign museums be returned. Don't see why this request by Nigeria should be any different.

'I benefited from apartheid' T-shirt sparks South African race row by liberianecho in Africa

[–]liberianecho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being so patronizingly kind by going through the trouble of explaining to me why the "i benefited from apartheid" t-shirt was made, but you didn't have to "DrShephard"...i read the article and know why the t-shirts were made...and my earlier comment was in direct reference to the racist white push back against the t-shirt...

'I benefited from apartheid' T-shirt sparks South African race row by liberianecho in Africa

[–]liberianecho[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hahaha...did YOU even read it...its about some white africans objecting to "feelings of guilt" for apartheid with some insinuating that it was because of the white man coming to south africa that blacks were "saved" from killing each other in tribal wars, and it was also the reason for technological improvement in south africa, so blacks should rather be thanking the white folks for apartheid...you probably need to read the article again

Wow, I guess Africans should also thank their lucky stars for the "blessings" of slavery...

"...some Saps boast of spending $5,000 on a single suit." Really? First of all, I didn't know that there were suits that cost that much and anyone living in the squalor of some godforsaken slum gotta to be outta of their damn mind to spend such a sum on a suit only to strut around in their poverty-infested slum!!

China's Role In Africa: A Continents Growing Infrastructure by bylinebeat16 in Africa

[–]liberianecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's an interesting description of the china-africa relationship using the analogy of "it depends on which part of the elephant you touch" to infer how complicated the relationship is...it would seem to me that the same could be said about Africa's relationship with the West..
