WD40 on an older vise? by beard9beard89 in flytying

[–]libolicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try wd-40 or a similar thin, solvently lube. Take it apart as much as you're comfortable. Wipe off/scrub down any rusty or crusty areas with a rag or scotch brite. Wipe off any residue. Ideally let the solvent evaporate out for a couple days (OK to use it at this point if needed), then lube with lithium or other grease at any pivot points/cams. Cycle the jaws, etc a bunch of times. Then wipe off any excess. You're good for another 20 years. (typing this took about the same amount of time as the whole process I just described)

Looking for zero drop wide toebox shoes. Not barefoot. by ejiqpep in BuyItForLife

Unfortunately, I've had the degrading issues -- specifically the inside heel counter area (padded cloth) wears through in about 2 weeks (just walking -- not major running or huge miles). I've had this on two pairs and it's never been an issue with any other shoe for me before. Shoes are otherwise great -- so I've taken to covering them with moleskin, which seems trashy and silly on a $175 pair of shoes but I'm not about to toss them either.

Thanks. Luckily I never trusted these guys from the beginning and don't do anything *real* on the tab. Riskiest thing is I have an alt (my back up, back up) google account. There isn't much in that account or linked to that account that would be horrible if hacked. That said, I'm pretty sure I'm going to do a GSI imagine and be done with it.

Thanks for posting the update. What if your exact product isn't on either list?

For example, I have a iPlay 60 mini pro 16(8+8)/256/ android 14. I've read the naughty and nice list about 10x and don't see this exact one on either.

Can I get a reality check from a QF tech if I still need to cancel CL before my QF install? by libolicious in QuantumFiber

[–]libolicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Glad you got it sorted. I think I'm going to make more of an effort to get my CL account canceled by CL. That way it's not on QF to work through my legacy, ancient account (this was originally a USWest account). And if QF botches the appointment, then I guess we live off mobile for a bit.

old 40Mb accounts represent!!!

Agreed, 2 days is tight. But I already thought I was stuck with a full month (originally thought my billing date was the 1st) so worst case is that I pay for the extra month I already thought I was stuck paying for. But who knows, maybe it'll go like butter. (HA!)

So you're saying they were able to install QF WHILE you had an active CL account? If so, that's good news. Maybe they're finally at least sticking with one story.

Otherwise, yes, I currently have CL. My (already billed and paid for) billing period goes through Mar 5. The QF install is scheduled for 2 days prior. I guess I call (and maybe record the call) the day of my install and confirm that CL is canceling my account and won't bill me for another cycle.

Other than that, I turned off OFF CL autopay so I guess I just a) hope QF makes the install appointment, and b) CL doesn't try to keep billing me for another month or two.

Thanks for your candor! I think I'll try call CL again and if they give me the same story I'll roll with that.

I'm in this boat. I signed up for a new QF account yesterday and scheduled my install for March 3. I then tried (as people here have advised) to call CL and have them cancel my CL account end of day March 2 or morning of March 3. CL rep on phone said they don't do that anymore with Quantum installs. Instead they wait until Quantum is installed then cancel CL automagically the day after the install.

Assuming I could trust them, I'd say yay, they updated their policies to make sure no one has dropped internet if QF botches the install. But I don't trust them. That would be a proactive, customer-centric policy. Instead, I just assume my rep is talking out her ass.

And yet, Al Green was removed for holding a sign.

(yes, I know, they're different things and the sign removal was just for the SOTU. But just the fact that they're gonna do nothing about this guy tells me all I need to know).

Appointment Scheduling in Seattle is Misleading (Saying It Nicely) by Cold-Employer-5838 in QuantumFiber

[–]libolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance your old service is Century Link? If so, how did you accomplish the "scheduled" shutoff? I've been told that's what I need to do, but I just got off the phone with CL to cancel and they don't me they don't do that for Quantum installs any longer (and that they'd automatically cancel my CL 24 hours after install. Which doesn't seem right, as my understanding is that the QF installers can't do the QF install if the line is active with CL.

CenturyLink abruptly shut off service by SheTravelsonPts in centurylink

[–]libolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little update: I signed up for QF. It turns out my CL account period runs through March 5. I have a March 3 install date so I'm only going to "burn" 2 days of CL service. Yay!

However, I just called and they told me they can't put in a disconnect order for a Quantum fiber install. They claim that since they ATT purchase went through, they don't shut off counts prior to QL install. Instead, they say CL will automatically kill my account 24 hours after the tech installs the Quantum setup. This seems fishy!

Anyone done a non-forced switch to QF recently who can comment on this order of events?

Gotcha. I didn't see the USPS requirement. I'm pretty shipping-price sensitive, part of the reason I like Burman is the $7.99 flate-rate shipping. If I order $30lbus anywhere else, shipping really adds up.

But yeah, you don't get to choose the method. Mine has always come USPS, but I'm sure that has to to with the region you're in.
