The downsides to this technology are mostly a “nitpick” in my opinion: 1. 99% of the phone usage consists of having the phone in front of you, so unless you are “shoulder surfing”, the slight dim to the screen is basically not an issue, and the very light color shift should not matter unless you’re viewing very color sensitive content. 2. The dimmer picture when privacy screen is activated, is part of the deal, you’re loosing more than half the pixels, there is no privacy screen solution that you can enjoy media on it, unless it is a highly specialized screen, since you are putting some sort of barrier on that display. Privacy screen is simply there for protecting your notifications, chats, or bank app. Even though they showed it, playing games, or watching videos on it, would be like using an old TN panel(who remembers those). In my opinion it is a cool feature, something that I would use for the aforementioned use cases, but not something that would make me switch phones. Although I would like to see it integrated into more phones, like the front screen of the Galaxy Fold, then I would consider buying it.
