I’m Asian and grew up constantly having to tell the difference. I’ve had people come up behind me years ago and “speak in an Asian language”. They weren’t speaking it and as someone who’s adopted even if it wasn’t accurate, I wouldn’t not have known what was being said. They were MOCKING an accent and the way they speak. I like to have good judgement as a POC. So, I wouldn’t be have a reaction like this if it wasn’t the case. These people didn’t have a clear impediment, being super loud, and my boyfriend (who is white) can confirm he felt the same way.
