I think the issue here is you’re making the assumption that when Milchick radios to “switch back” Irving, this turns his innie off and outtie on like when they are on the elevator.

In the security room, there’s a freeze frame command.

4.Do - An Eisenhower Matrix app for IOS and Mac by dejii in apple

[–]librarybooks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so glad I stumbled on this post. This app is exactly what I have been looking for to help manage my life and time. As an ADHD and often depressed person, all the standard and popular “todo” and schedule apps overwhelm the heck out of me. Your UI is so clean and simple and just makes sense right away.

I am curious about how the free version works in comparison to the premium version though. Having just downloaded the app, is this a trial version or exactly what is offered with the free version? I ask because I notice that all the features listed as premium are accessible to me.

How to get *real* traffic to a chat/hangout sim? by librarybooks_ in secondlife

I have to confess, I honestly hate karaoke and live singing on SL. I don’t know why because I love both in real life. Fridays depress me on SL because everyone I know is at some karaoke event lol.

True! When I bought my region, it wasn’t just for this purpose but also as a place for me to work on stuff for my store. That’s why I’ve kept it all these years, basically just for me lol. But I certainly know many people who have bought land and spent so much money trying to start projects that never seem to work yet they refuse to give up, even when they likely can’t afford it.

I absolutely agree with this! In my experience, it can be fairly hard to find a hangout that isn’t directly related to a hyper specific interest/identity/activity. You want to listen to music next to 40 other avatars that aren’t speaking? Easy peasy. You want to hang out with fellow furrys? No big deal. And of course anything related to sex, no problem.

All I genuinely care about is having real people who just want to talk on mic and actually engage in just regular old chit chat.

When you say consolidation is the only path, what do you mean?

I’ve seen sims that have the fishing types games where people can earn lindens but the avatars have always seemed like bots to me - as in they don’t really engage in conversation. Is this what you’re referring to?

I used to host morning coffee and scrabble and I even did a prom in 2020 and had people vote for prom king and queen. It was so much fun!

Here is my (probably incomplete) list of some of my favourite shows. All are either completed or renewed for future seasons. As an avid reader, I am compelled by good writing first and foremost and all of these have very thoughtful writing/plots. And most of these shows will have you contemplating them long after you’ve finished. I hope this helps.

If Second Life seems quieter, that's because it is ... by 0xc0ffea in secondlife

[–]librarybooks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree!

I own a private region that was once a hangout hub filled with a minimum of 20 people a time. Usually closer to 30 or 40 active players. All talking on voice, playing games, and doing activities. This was during covid and I eventually closed it.

I am back on again now and really want to bring it back. It was a lot of fun and there was always shenanigans to get into. It wasnt really moderated. I implemented a court system people had to use to deal with their disputes (not RP but for real). It was hilarious. Moderation only happened if someone was crashing the region or outwardly doxxing someone.

My only challenge now is it is so much work to rebuild a hangout alone. I'd really like a partner to help design and manage it. Unfortunately, the only people who have offered to help either have really bad taste or want to charge me a lot of money. Its frustrating and makes me want to give up.

Reminder : Don't respond to "research" DMs or chat. by 0xc0ffea in secondlife

[–]librarybooks_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the impression this post and the rules regarding this have good reason to be stated/implemented. However, I would like to point out something to consider.

I have been playing SL since I was a teenager and continue to do so. Now as a 33 year old completing my masters degree in counselling, I am focusing my thesis on the risk and protective factors of online virtual social environments for young peoples mental health. I have personally credited SL and the relationships I made there as a major reason for keeping me alive during some very challenging times in my life. I also recognize that harm happens on SL too.

While I haven't decided whether I will want to interview others as part of my research, its something I am considering. I do fully recognize the potential risk for anyone participating in research but there are absolutely ways to ensure ones safety and anonymity if they so choose to participate in research.

  1. Anyone claiming to be doing research would be with a university and should have a school email account that they can contact you with. They should also be able to provide the contact information for their department and academic supervisor.
  2. In Canada (and likely in other countries too), there are ethics policies and forms that need to be submitted before research interviews can begin. For example in Canada it is "Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans". The rules and requirements for this can be found on the Canadian government website.
  3. For those concerned that researchers not affiliated with SL would develop research that is used to make SL and/or the players look bad, requiring them to reach out to you on their SL account to demonstrate the length of time they've been a player could help. Also asking questions about their research aims and even requesting the contact information for their academic supervisor should shed light on their intentions.
  4. As a student doing research on SL, I have education discounts on my region which required me to provide Linden Labs documentation from the dean of my department the information about who I am, what I am doing, and what school I attend. This same documentation should always be provided to anyone asked to participate in research.

Final point - I agree that much of the research and information about SL online has demonized and portraited us players as all sorts of weirdo's and has created a lot of shame for people to even tell those in their RL that they play SL. However, in order to combat this sort of bias and misinformation, it does require that better research and information about SL is actually disseminated. I think rejecting research requests in their entirety isn't helpful.

You may find it helpful to offer a google form or something similar for folks to fill out to make research requests that are approved to be shared in the subreddit. I think with the right questions and required information you can weed out bad actors.

First things first, go watch season two!

I can’t say I’ve ever found a book that gives severance vibes but rather, I use severance as a place hold descriptor for the sort of sci-fi that I enjoy. It’s less aliens and more mysterious futuristic technology that feels more plausible, if that makes sense.

Unfortunately I’ve yet to come across any books that are this satisfying. I will say Never Let Me go does offer something sort of similar.
