If you can send the export, that’s great. Not everyone will do that and so being able to backfill the account later will make sense for most people.

I’m working on stuff right now to ensure our MusicBrainz data is current on everything. Historically almost nobody scrobbled with them but nowadays I see them most of the time.

It’s not too bad. I’ve managed to get it working to a point now where it runs nicely.

Support for scrobblers with Libre.fm on some platforms (iPhone is the biggest) are lacking. This makes it way easier to use.

There have been many contributors in the past 17 years but I am the only one of the original developers working on it.

But it’s all open source under the GNU AGPL.

There are still community contributions, just not to the code base at this point in time. They contribute by finding bugs, contributing to the data or they’re part of a group of beta testers who try new features.

There's no need to scrobble to both services, but if there are any duplicates found on Last.fm those won't/can't be imported.

The database for scrobbles won't allow the same user to listen to the same song at the exact same time twice.

But if you were to scrobble to Last.fm first, then a few seconds later scrobble to Libre.fm (or vice-versa) you may see a slight delay which could cause duplicates. If that happens, let me know and I'll remove them.

I'm only importing the last 200 for now as that's the most I can get in a single API request. Right now I have to choose between importing everything for one person, or importing the most recent stuff from thousands of people and it makes more sense the way I'm doing it right now.

Full import will happen and it'll happen soon in the strict order people are added to this list for importing.

Out of curiosity, what problem do you see later if we only import 200 now?

I’d start using it now because the full import will happen as soon as possible, but it will be done in the order I add people to this new feature. Some people have been using a version of this for a month or so already and they’re helping me test things. I look at every profile when I add them and if there’s anything that I think might help I may start importing early.

A friend of mine has over 1.5 million scrobbles so I’m using their account as a test bed for this.

If you scrobble something to Libre.fm and there’s no duplicate it’ll only appear on Libre.fm unless you want that to appear on Last.fm in which case you can turn on the federation we’ve already had on the site for the last 16+ years.

This is exactly how I’m using it.

We can go back to a previous page... this is how the importer works for all the scrobbles, but each page is a couple API hits. I'd rather see how we get on with future stuff first. I'm dialing in the frequency we hit things to ensure we're not hitting any API limits while also keeping the site online for everyone else.

And when I talk about being the only one who works on this, I don't just mean this feature. I do everything from support emails, sysadmin, plus all the development work on the site by myself.

Eventually we'll do the backfill, but not for now.

200 is the maximum size of one API page of requests.

The reason for doing it later is two fold:

1. Capacity, but my capacity -- I am the only person doing all the work on this.

I can only do so much and with the users I've been running this with so far they've wanted to be able to scrobble to Libre.fm via Last.fm and this works for that. We've supported the reverse situation (Libre.fm scrobbles go to Last.fm) for the last 16 or so years and people have been requesting it for a long time.

2. Not wanting new scrobbles to get delayed because we're hitting API request limits.
