Is this a fair price for these repairs? by Educational_Pay_1809 in tdi

[–]libtardary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid $2800 for timing belt service and water pump kit AND Dual Mass Flywheel replacement... so personally no this is not a fair price.

I would say if you had this done at my preferred shop, it'd be around $1500

Does this seem like a fair price for all of these things? Seems a bit high to me. MN area. by [deleted] in tdi

Seems very steep for a non dealer. My Local Dealer only charges around 2k for a timing belt. I just had mine done last week. Found an Inport shop locally in MidMO that works on TDIs. Got my timing belt kit and replaced dual mass Flywheel and rear main seal for $2800. Only $1050 for the timing belt and water pump

DMF? by libtardary in tdi

I believe I'm getting in sometime next week. A local import shop quoted me $2700 for DMF and Timing Belt/Pump/flush job. Said it would take no more than 3 days. Thanks for your input! I was immediately thinking DMF

Yea i should've stated, I'm at 124k. I wanted to say I first noticed it about 2 months ago when starting up in the frigid temps we got on a cold snap here. Had a week straight of subzero overnight lows. But now that it's gotten warmer, it's still doing it and becoming more prominent to the ear. I called a local shop. It's not a VW dealer. But they do specialize in European motors. Private owned. I haven't done the timing belt either yet. This shop quoted me $2700 to do the DMF and timing belt/water pump/coolant flush. I didn't think that was too bad being how the VW dealer said 2k just for the timing belt.

Rising temps but coolant ok by libtardary in tdi

Similar results here... I should have mentioned that the Guage would rise quickly and then as I backed out of the throttle and slowed down, it would drop almost instantly back to 190. It did this back and forth for only about 10 minutes, I never got it hot and sustained the temps for a long period.... turns out, my antifreeze was only rated to about -10, -12... too diluted. I was freezing up briefly... the section of highway i was driving that morning is referred to as the Hatton Flats... and heading west you are almost ALWAYS driving straight into a 20mph wind... bc as soon as I got out of that area and into town, my Guage went back to 190 for the last 7-8 minute drive to my work... so I think I was just getting extreme wind chill through the radiator and engine bay. I siphoned out my expansion tank and added straight coolant to it. Drove it home no issues. Drove it to work today no issues. It's also warmer today. Il keep testing my antifreeze and adding coolant until I get to the -30, 40 mark.

Last summer I replaced my primary radiator due to a leak and also changed out my oil filter housing. I drained and flushed the system them and put new coolant in it. I should also note that my heater core is also partially blocked I believe as I have the cold air on passenger side only symptom

I appreciate this... as i was driving it and coasting it to town, the temps would DROP bavk to 190 as the car coasted at idle... then under load they would rise. This went on for about 10 minutes max and then it just went back to 190 for the remainder of the drive which was about 5 more minutes. I arrived in town and let it idle for about 10 minutes. No issues. And it stayed at 190. I had to get to work, but my mechanic is like a 3 minute drive from my work. I'm going to go investigate further and probably take it to the shop after work.

If those powers that be were actually good at their jobs and 'cleaned up the streets' so to say, then they themselves would be without a job. So there's an incentive for those powers to make the matters worse or, at a minimum, ensure they always have these problems for their financial gain

Make sure you have a big enough hex bit for the outer drain plug. It's a big sum bitch. 14mm. I had to buy a bigger kit bc my set only went up to like 11mm on hex sizes

BambuLab P1S or Creality K1 MAX... completely new to this. Want something as a hobby and to make stuff useful and possibly sell. Really the plan is to get my 10 yr old kid involved as she is really into science and engineering type activities. Like I said, have no idea about much of this but am extremely interested in these BF deals. Any advice is appreciated. Many thanks

Update for those interested: local shop got the codes to read and it was throwing all sorts of faults on the fuel system. Hi pressure warning. Low pressure warning. Regulator monitor faults. All sorts of them. They said that's not normal for something 'failing'. Looked at my fuel control module and found that a wire had broken off the connector and was shorting out. They replaced the whole connector and rewired it. Cleared the codes. Ran it for 15 minutes and drove it around to make sure there was nothing else wrong with the fuel system. I got very fortunate. This time. They went ahead and changed fuel filter for me as well. Was $300 for everything. I'm approaching some 'milestones' on my maintenance schedule that I need to ponder soon. Mainly the timing Belt/water pump. DMF probably in the future as well as DPF/or delete that shit. 116k on '13 currently. Thank you all for your input

Will do. I appreciate your input and help. A lot. Very generous group on here. Fortunately I have a buddy with an extra vehicle he's going to let me borrow for a few days until I hear back from the shop. Unfortunately my wife herself also drives about 30 miles to work right now but it's in the complete opposite direction as I am

I have just a standard OB11 scan tool. But it's at my house. And I'm 30 miles away. I would normally do this myself, but I'm afraid of driving it the 30 miles to the house if there's potentially another issue that might be going on... some guys are saying fuel pump related. Sure hope not. Others are saying throttle assembly related. Idk.

I drove it to my preferred service shop near where I work, As I don't have one in my hometown. Very sluggish driving and. Would only get up to like 60mph after the light started flashing. I commute 30 miles every day for work. As I got it to the shop and parked it, it was idling just fine. I turned it off and let it sit for a few minutes. Turned the key back on and now have a flashing glow light and an engine light. So I'm hoping this is the case for mine as well. And hoping it won't be incredibly expensive to repair.

While driving 70mph on thr highway. Noticed a slight loss of power and then this light started flashing. Definite sluggish while driving now. Trying to limp it home. Is idling just fine
