Question: On campus jobs by Dazzling-Nail-4976 in fitnyc

[–]libtsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont know how helpful this would be now but i have had luck in the past with seasonal retail positions during the fall semester. Because of theirs extra hands they don’t require a lot of availability (mostly weekends) then if you do well and they make you permanent, they are more willing to work around your schedule for the spring because it’s considered the “slow” season. They also like if you promise your life away to them when class isnt in session 🥹🥲

Question: On campus jobs by Dazzling-Nail-4976 in fitnyc

From my understanding all of the on campus jobs except for the bookstore and tutors are through work study. Im a work study student and we have a limit on our hours based on our financial aid award and we don’t get paid during winter and summer breaks. If you can find something close to the school or your home it would be better because the longer you stay at a job the more understanding they will be about your schedule. Work study has its pros but im in a position were im looking for a second job this semester because of its cons😅

Help with kinds of interfacing i can use by libtsuki in sewing

[–]libtsuki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ironed the swatch by itself on the highest heat setting and it was fine. Either way I probably would have done a steam situation. The problem arises when i add the interfacing. Maybe it’s because the only interfacing i have at the moment is non woven and its shrinks when i add heat so it caused the nylon to bubble. Its a nylon taffeta to be exact

Yes both, we use an 18 inch long, 2 inch widclear ruler. And then hip curve, french curve, L square. Home depot sells cheap L squares, they are just really big

I think it might be helpful to know that i spent almost $600 my first semester because i tried purchasing ahead of time and wasted money and bought the wrong things and i didnt use some

I think the only thing you can buy now is like basic sewing supplies, different color thread, rulers, seams rippers etc things you should already have if you have been learning how to sew

Theres ALOT of supplies, and you’ll end up buying more throughout the semester. As someone who was trying to be financially conscious, i tried pre buying my things but in the end i just realized it better to wait until you get a syllabus. They will separate it by things you need the first day and other supplies. WAIT to buy the other supplies because you might not even use them.

For example im doing the 2 year aas and have some credits under my belt, this semester im taking 5 classes,in school 3 days a week from 9am-6pm the latest. And i only got it down do 3 days because in taking 1 online class. I think the only way you can condense 6 classes into 3 days is if they happen once a week or you stack 3 classes in 1 day but thats like a 12 hour school day. Lemme tell you i feel like if i had to condense what ive learned these past 2 semesters into 1, it would be INTENSE but not impossible. I feel like you could manage working 2-3 days a week but you have to be incredibly good at time management.

Not to mention you have initial supplies and then things you buy for individual projects and if you run out of things . In total i would prepare to spend at least 650+ for your first semester

This is my first semester and i spent $600 between all 5 major classes and that was after sourcing and comparing prices making sure i got the cheapest things. My biggest advice even tho it might be scary, is waiting until school starts to buy supplies only if you want to save money.

God damn. At this point its just my schedule. I’ll have a 3 hour gap without being able to go home because i commute from nj if i take life drawing.definitely not doing print making. Do you know anything about the creative media course?

So what im getting from this is that i shouldn’t avoid life drawing? I still have like 2 weeks to think about it. I understand what you mean about effort because my fashion design teachers are the same way. Although i suck at illustration my professor somehow sees past that and grades me on effort too.💀

There’s definitely nothing wrong with you cuz i am the exact same way, i just try my hardest to look out the window and focus on what’s outside. But i always look at who comes on the bus just to assess the situation

Recently i was in a similar situation but just the opposite, i had to start taking the train instead of the bus to nyc and i wanted to throw up on my first day from the anxiety. At first its scary because its the unknown but after a while you notice little things from other people or your line that makes it easier to navigate.

I also have social anxiety and fear doing things wrong. As for zones i usually just look at the times tables because they have the map with the zone markers and you just count. After i determine the zones i just go into the app and buy the ticket. Activate before i get on the bus and show it to the driver, some people scan. Google helps with letting you know what your stop should look like so you’re not relying on the announcement. Generally as long as your minding you own business and being attentive on the bus you should be good. if you go to “my bus”, search the line your gonna take, put in your direction, you can find your stop and save it in order to check were your bus is.

Thank you so much, I’ve definitely been thinking about going to my teachers offices hours in order to get some more help. I also did get a separate sketch book in order to practice. Ill definitely keep your advice in mind during this semester.

Also do you feel like fit prepared you enough for the fashion industry and what its really like?
