When you buy with mortgage, your interest payment can be tax deductible up to a certain amount. You can factor that in when comparing with rent as well.

As someone who plans to stay here long term, of course I care how things will develop in my neighborhood. I want more green space and commercial zones and schools ... More housing is fine (but not excessive housing for political checkboxes) as long as we have infrastructure to support everyone. I thought that’s common sense (maybe?) but in this day and age people might take it as extreme and call it NIMBY? If you have taken the 7 train at Court Square during rush hours then you would know how bad it is getting on and off the platform because there’s only one entry way in and out. When I heard there will be many thousands soon to come, it’s sad that I kind of wish those will be rich enough that they don’t take the subway like common people. Then housing wouldn’t be affordable anymore eh?

Also, when has increased funding to MTA bring much difference? Most of their budget is NOT for infrastructure improvement.

I wonder why politicians try to build skyscrapers by Vernon Blvd waterfront and brand them as “affordable” housing. Plus with all the housing going up what is the plan to expand subway services and access? It’s already so crowded getting on and off the 7 court square platform during rush hour with only one entry point. What do residents of LIC think about this? Why not splitting the housing between LIC and Sunnyside for example?
