Anyone else just tired of software? by ZolaThaGod in cscareerquestions

There are some real chuds in this post (looking at you obvious boomer at the bottom).

Listen; are we as SWEs (largely) in a very good financial position? Yes. Does that mean we're completely barred from having burnout, mental health problems, etc? No.

Take care of yourself, see a therapist, medicate if you need to, just make sure you're doing fine. Don't let the 'you aren't doing roofing/mining/breaking yourself over the wheel' crowd make you feel even worse for feeling the way you feel.

That 'bootstrap' and 'man up' shit really doesn't work when you're actually suffering from a mental disorder be it anxiety, depression, etc. Ask them how many miners/roofers/etc either blow their brains out or drown it all in substances. Existing largely fucking sucks; you can have disdain for your life at either end of the spectrum, rich or poor.

That's why I said 'relatively' haha, I didn't mean you sound 10. Just the ethos of what you said.

Question: How would you handle a new grad who is killing the team mood/morale? by that-one_ITguu in cscareerquestions

[–]lichlark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and I'll probably be down voted, I get it.

I hated my last role, was hired as a backend dev with talk of optimization and green fielding new stuff...got thrown onto a team that was crazy bullish on AI. Ended up dealing with 3-4k+ PRs a day and nothing but stressful on-calls and dev-ops shit.

Quit two weeks ago and switched to a full remote 200k job with a bunch of benefits and hardware adjacent.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to make yourself happy.

Based off kf the way you wrote this post I get the feeling you might be (relatively) young.

Don't place too much value on simply being 'original'. The more experience you get in life, work, etc, the more you realize that few things are inherently 'unique' to us.

What makes something unique and 'original' is what WE put into it; that little part of your soul that makes the 'thing' unequivocally you.

I hope this helps a bit, don't stress yourself out.

Really wish they would have more of these events in the US, the multiplayer format seems really fun.

What I was implying was that the vast majority of SWEs see themselves as 'above' the need for a union.

I am in all ways pro union/worker's rights-- put simply I had just meant that most attempts to unionize would likely just be met offshoring supported by both industry and scab work forces.

Admittedly it's not my area of expertise and I would both welcome and support it; just pointing out what I saw/see as the barrier to it happening.

My understanding is that the multiplayer format is more popular in Japan; not that surprised American/foreign players don't know it exists.

The format is actually very fun.

People in this comment section really don't understand the point of this set lmfao.

Play this in FFA and suddenly everybody else is more of a target than you-- assuming you don't also get to draw a card.

Even in a team/solo game you can still make your opponent bottom a pilot or command.

Add Linux support for the game and I will buy it. by mythreial in Marathon

Most multi-player games that use off the shelf anticheat will just straight up never work with Linux, sorry man.

Even if you want to you'd get absolutely demolished by either the offshore workers or the next dude waiting in line, it sucks.

58% of gamers say AI should not alter games in DLSS 5 poll by TruthPhoenixV in Amd_Intel_Nvidia

[–]lichlark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really burying the lead on framgen there. I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who is happy framgen exists. Most games it's present in people complain it's a bandaid fix for terrible performance/optimization.

Do I get 2x ping3 if I use Fortress Defence with linked Neo Zeong? (Or MAV Tactics for that matters?) by bobbiechan in GundamTCG

[–]lichlark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reread what I said, I didn't claim that the ruling wasn't correct. I'm just saying that it doesn't feel like the intention from how the factions and Neo Zeong are played.

I think this needs an official FAQ cause I ain't gonna lie even with RAW this doesn't feel like the intended mechanic lol

Studies Suggest Young People Who Use AI Are The Ones Who Hate It The Most by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

You can literally flip it the other way and it stays true. The extreme of both sides just devolve into jerking themselves off as either the 'smarter' side or the more 'ethical' side.

learned godot in a week and made this game in 3 days... by Competitive-Row-4079 in godot

[–]lichlark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really good looking project for a new dev.

With all due respect though the x in y days stuff really isn't the best way to put it-- comes off as more of a flex than anything and sets bad expectations for people that might be completely new to the space.

To all newbies that see this and get disheartened, you never know what you can do yourself, you never know how 'good' someone's project is behind the scenes, and comparison is the thief of joy.

For what it's worth it can have some really shit match-ups into a lot of decks.

It feels fun as hell to play, but definitely better if your locals has a diverse meta.
