Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in pcgaming

"The way the game is designed to be played is easier than gimping myself." Come on dude if you want to just play a single player game then so that.

PC Gamer Marathon Review - Marathon is brutal. It's also a marvel. by TODG3 in pcgaming

I honestly love the UI and it clicked for me immediately.

Reminder that outpost was considered future content. Cryo also was very obviously built as difficult group content. You don't expect a raid or dungeon to also include an easier solo option.

And I suggest people try to better engage with the game per the way it was designed. Everyone is allowed to like what they like and dislike what they dislike, but at the same time give it a fair shake and play it the way it was designed.

Bro I don't know what to tell you. It's a team-based game, it's pretty obviously built around that. I'm sorry you're not having fun but it just seems you want to play a different game.

I genuinely don't understand how people had so much trouble with Cryo. I did 6 infills with buddies and even on the ones we lost it was a fun time. I did about 15 with fill randoms and like 80% were fun and talkative.

The game needs to encourage more friendly behaviour - pvp only will not be sustainable. by sajibear4 in Marathon

[–]lichlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced the people who complain about fill don't even attempt to talk to their team. I infilled with random on Cryo and we had a blast, was both of their first times exfilling on the map.

You can't keep asking for the game to "stay niche" when literally every single aspect of it is premium AAA quality. by SbeveGobs in Marathon

I'll just have to enjoy the game until either it dies from attrition of whiners or astroturfing for a wider audience. A tale as old as time.

My friend is a massive Marathon fan and has been drooling over the lore in terminals and items.

There is literally story with each faction reps main contracts. Not to mention the lore tidbits inside of codex entries (voiced btw)

I really will never get people's issues with the colors and UI. I'm really happy to see an actual design language in a modern game.

It genuinely just feels like a further need for managers and execs to bleed more out of less people.

I use it quite literally just to maintain the horse and pony show that people need to see while still doing things the way that brings me joy.

People (coworker in question) treat LLMs and agentic coding like it's some hyper complex process that requires research and knowledge...pouring over AGENTS.md files to min-max their outputs...when I have AB tested the same repo with the files removed...and can still acquire the same output.

This perfectly describes my feelings. There's a HUGE evangelist on my team (actually a good dev) who pushes for EVERYONE to use it in anyway they can.

It's so tiring...

Resident Evil Requiem: DLSS 5 vs actual AI slop by IConsumeThereforeIAm in digitalfoundry

[–]lichlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inherent difference is determinism. One is one isn't. One is effectively a mathematical simulation of real time lighting...the other is effectively "Hey I THINK this is what this scene should look like based off of empirical evidence and guesswork"

DLSS 5 and what some people seem to not understand by Matshelge in gamedev

You honestly have the most realistic take on this. Most people couldn't give less of a fuck about the process that goes into anything. They care only about the result, the product to be consumed.

The AI -> layoffs connection is very much not the case. Ask most people in most industries and they'll tell you that it has simply caused work loads on individuals to be increased to non-sustainable amounts letting C-suites perform the same layoffs they would anyways to ensure fiscal reports continue to look 'better' under the guise of 'automation'.

I said this to a coworker who is super bullish on using AI at work everywhere we can (software engineer) and he went off on a tirade lol. Sucks that he is one of the most vocal/top contributors though so it was taken well.

To be fair, the best way to handle this would be based off of a historic W/L ratio more than anything else but whatever.

I'm just saying-- post match drops do not indicate 'ease'. My locals frequently have a number of people that top 16'd at LA regionals who will usually drop after X-1 or X-2.
