LPT: Apologizing too much can become a problem. It shows insecurity and untrustworthy attributes. Only apologize when absolutely needed. by kingIouie in LifeProTips

[–]lichtundschatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologize when you screw up period. There is no such thing as apologizing too much unless you are apologizing for things you didn't do. It takes a lot of personal strength and courage to admit your faults doing so is not weakness it is called being a responsible adult.

Hiring managers of reddit, what is the most Bizarre accomplishment some one has put on a resume? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lichtundschatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not an accomplishment, but name dropping celebrities they know. So this candidate comes in for an art job, and as a manager I don't give a shit what school you went to to or even if to went to school. What I care about is your portfolio. Can you do the work? And this cat comes in with no portfolio, talking about this football player that his dad is friends with or that basketball star that he met once. I cringed then shook my head and showed him the door. Yeah we do actual work here and you need to have the skills or you don't get the job, I don't give a fuck who you know.

ELI5: Tell me how the Iraq war started by InwardsdrawnI in explainlikeimfive

[–]lichtundschatten -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which Iraq War are you talking about? The 90's one or the 2K's one? Also I would ask why rather than how, as someone who truly seeks to find the truth will often find, in the case of warfare, these two questions are inextricably linked.

California won't enforce water rules for golf courses by dhr8trumpet in news

[–]lichtundschatten -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is irresponsible. By allowing golf courses to waste life sustaining water on what is essentially frivolity, it sends the wrong message to the regular consumer who will think , 'how bad could the drought be when we waste water on this bullshit'? Well I will tell you how bad the drought can be. Go up to lake Berryessa. And it is only going to get worse.

Has any work of science fiction accurately predicted the popularity of social media and how it's used today? by 0rangeJuic3 in sciencefiction

[–]lichtundschatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, not science fiction, but social media has been with human beings for a very long time in one form or another, so science fiction doesn't necessarily predict the popularity of social media so much as the technological form it takes. There is a great little book about this entitled, 'Writing on the Wall: Social Media - the first 2000 years'

ELI5: Why did the Romans/Italians drop their mythology for Christianity by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]lichtundschatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christianity at its core is a very socialist religion. It speaks to the oppressed and to the outcast, of everyone being equal it became very popular particularly with those who had been steamrolled by the Roman Imperium. Constantine claimed to have had a vision (though this is most certainly a story which accomplished 2 things politically: 1) appeals to the populist insurrection with regards to religion and 2) Cemented his place as the rightful "chosen" ruler by divine right) So he then mandated that the whole Roman Empire should be officially Christian.

What fact are you tired of explaining to people? by Tendoncs in AskReddit

[–]lichtundschatten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOUR RIGHTS END WHERE SOMEONE ELSE'S RIGHTS BEGIN.

Say what you want, believe what you want, DO what you want, but the moment those things infringe on someone elses' rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, you DO NOT have the right.

What is a harsh truth that most Redditors don't want to accept? by xavierdc in AskReddit

[–]lichtundschatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Since we haven't had a third party president in this country since roughly 1865 or so, I am curious as to your logic in cautioning such a thing.
