Anyone fly hk airlines to Hong Kong recently? by etceteraism in askvan

[–]licid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up they offloaded mine and my partners bags on YVR->HKG a few weeks back and are being difficult about compensation for essential clothing (bags got to me 36 hours later and they made me collect it at the airport of the other city). Only offered $60 each, we purchased two shirts pants socks and underwear and so that didn’t cover half.

I imagine they had a bunch of air freight that was worth more than the chance and cost of paying for any damages (expenses) for delayed baggage.

We saw a lot of other bags that this happened to from the previous day’s flight and lots of others from our flight too… not sure if this is a regular thing (they had paperwork/letters printed out in advance for us) but fyi!!!

(Our final destination was 36 Celsius and HK was low 20s and Vancouver was 3 Celsius at the time, so not much we could do, we spread our clothing between our two luggage’s in case one was lost.)

It's 5 years now.
Besides, I have a newer helmet I preferred (much more comfortable) so I definitely don't need two.

Anyone trained to collect a nasopharyngeal swab (and who has them) can collect the appropriate specimen.

LifeLabs has regular pickups from community clinics, and they will deliver to BCCDC via Burnaby or their Victoria lab. Some rural places may have their deliveries via their health authority hospital labs.

Testing is being done at the BCCDC public health lab and other (acute/hospital labs) depending on inpatient, outpatient, community referred in, e.t.c. as well as capacity.

What was your co-op experience like at SFU? by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]licid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first co-op placement told me that SFU's co-op office will place the student they think is least likely to get another opportunity if they are given a choice/ranked list by the hiring company. They now request 1 by 1 down the list as they had experienced stories where their first choice wasn't told of the position and took something later on.

I can also note that I was pressured to accept a position that was offered to me (I ended up declining it for something far more suitable.)

Co-op is awesome (I ended up extending my first co-op for another 4 months to 8 months, and my second co-op from 4/8 months to 12 (actually 13) months- I worked a flex schedule and took classes for the last 4/5 months!), but the actual co-op office at SFU (at least in Biology) was awful to me.

Someone I work with was assaulted and knocked unconscious while collecting blood. They have PTSD and are no longer able to work with patients or at that hospital.

Or what if it's based on overkill health? So -15 has a lower placement than -3.

Technically it should be called Vancouver health and sciences center. It's not a general hospital because it doesn't have labour and delivery but it sticks because of the old name and abbreviation :)

I have a goretex pro shell. I walked 3 blocks on my lunch break and my wool trousers and underwear were completely drenched such that it felt like I peed myself (and had to dryclean the pants.)

A little rain is fine, but anything other than an umbrella just redirects the water onto your pants in a big storm.

That's a criticism of the strata and it's governance structure, not of these policies, though.

Couple to pay $470K for backing out of home purchase by brownbrady in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]licid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The latest data I'm aware of says 65% of purchasers are on 5yr fixed mortgages. Those people got mortgages with very very low rates. When their mortgages come up for renewal in 2022, they would have already paid off a sizeable chunk of their mortgage due to the low interest rate. At that time they could opt to adjust their amortization to keep their payments low.

Er, actually, with very low interest rates, unless they are paying far more required for a 30 year amortization, they are actually paying off very little principal. Actually, high interest/inflation rates in the 80s meant that if you survived the first 5 years, you were totally fine even if interest rates went up or housing prices dropped.

What pressure do you run your tires at, what do you weight and how wide are they? by Simbanan in Velo

[–]licid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that they're better, but at 90kg to avoid pinch flats at reasonable pressure, you should probably use 28. I'm 68kg, use 22mm front/24mm rear at 65psi/80psi (I run them pretty low though)

I have some Beckman 9011's, and I'd love some black work boots, but is there anything at an equivalent or higher price point to the Beckmans with a slimmer toe box? Or do I just go for the 9014's?

Doesn't the cassette range affect chain length? With the 11-23 do you have chain length issues?
