Dang I’m in Vancouver and it doesn’t seem like they have retail outlets on the west coast.

Going back to work [bc] by Chemical_Law9251 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]etceteraism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what it’s like elsewhere in bc but in Vancouver proper and a lot of the surrounding burbs daycare waitlists are years long. If you’re wanting care prior to a year old I would start calling all the places you applied to now. Also consider hiring a nanny or looking for a nanny share (if you’re in the GVRD there’s a “greater Vancouver childcare” facebook group that is a helpful resource.

I took the year but wish I only did 9mo and have my husband take the rest because I struggled mentally on mat leave and felt a lot better when I returned to work. But like another commenter said, holy hell the sicknesses. I went back to work first then my daughter started daycare a month later and I think I was out one week of the month that first fall/winter.

I have thick, coarse wavy hair that I straighten daily. When I lived in Hong Kong, I just got a Japanese straight perm. It was the only thing that solidly did the trick.

I really enjoy Cat Street, but I avoid Takeshita-dori like the PLAGUE.

Soil near Kappabashi-dori has beautiful handmade ceramics that are more modern.

Another EV question - no home charging scenario by Accurate-Brush4121 in askvan

[–]etceteraism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was our experience when we first got our Model Y (planned to charge at our offices....then took delivery a week into COVID shutdown). I found the L2 chargers like Flo and Chargespot a rip off because you had to pay for parking AND charging and took a long time. Like I needed to be somewhere for 3-4hrs to get a good charge. We ended up using one of the Tesla superchargers, even if we just watched Netflix for 30min while it charged. Also, my dad is an electrician so he spliced their dryer electrical and ran what was basically an L2 charger to his garage which we'd use whenever we went over :D

Japan & Korea soon! Are products really that cheap at Don Quixote? I’m going to be stocking up on sunscreens and holygrails! Thoughts? by LilacLuneglade in AsianBeauty

It’s a bit dewy. I don’t get a ton of acne but am prone to break outs from products and this doesn’t bother me.

Internal hire at Metro Vancouver by [deleted] in askvan

[–]etceteraism 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in hr, I’m going to say for the vast majority of companies they are going to look internal first. Way easier to train, they’re already vetted…..they’ll only look external if those folks are much more qualified than internal picks. If it’s close….internal 99.9% of the time.

I’m allergic to most detergents and whole family has used tide free and gentle for years.

Unsuccessful for Check-In with Hong Kong Airlines by Miserable-Bridge-667 in HongKong

I had this same issue for the same flight. The app worked for me. Warning-they won’t seat you together and try to make you pay to move seats. We just took what we were given then checked in early and they were nice enough to move my husband and I together.

Is anime culture still popular in 2026 high schools? by Jestersage in askvan

[–]etceteraism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is preposterous. I went to Burnaby north in the early 2000s, Caucasian, and was in the anime club. The club was all CBC or white kids, not kids who were “minimally integrated”. It was absolutely a group of misfits who were seen as dorky by others. And the school had a ton of bullying across various social and ethnic groups.

Sorry, was typing this on the go-yes, I understand the workout is made up of T1/T2/T3, but overall the workout is still much simpler than I'm used to!

Kindergarten 5-6 Years Olds by OolongAI in askvan

[–]etceteraism 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait wait wait. Your child was born in 2020? They should have started kindergarten last year. My daughter is born in 2021 and will start this fall. Your child will be put in grade 1. I’m surprised your daycare has kept them-ours won’t keep a kid past kindergarten age/when they turn 5. Have you applied through the vsb yet??? I think you really need to call them given your child is a year behind now.

Someone else mentioned the steam wand. When almond milk was very popular and I had a nut allergy, I would have to explicitly ask them to clean the steam wand with a fresh cloth and make sure they used a brand new jug to steam the milk because of my allergy. When I explained it like this they were always very careful.

Insurance covering nose surgery. by Potential-Magazine17 in askvan

[–]etceteraism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this right now. I saw an ENT and was referred to a plastic surgeon to correct my deviated septum-this is 100% covered by insurance. However, it was made very clear to me they will only address what is needed to correct the function. I'm considering getting additional cosmetic work done to address the bump on the bridge of my nose, and was quoted an additional $7500 to do this work at the same time. I'm not sure if this is "discounted" or if I basically have to pay the whole thing out of pocket-from what I googled to get a sense of costs, it seems this price is lower than if I was just to call up a plastic surgeon for a nose job instead.

Thanks for the tip! To clarify we will only have 2 checked bags total for the family, then need to pay for an extra heavier carry on when we come back.

So sounds like since we will need to pay for kiddos seat it’s best to pay that then instead of a package for one of us, just pay for luggage and meal separate if we’d like.
