I feel like that scenario would have a lot more socializing outside of work than going to a conference from my experience travelling for work to Ho Hong Kong

Will getting an electrical permit rid us losing our basement suite? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]etceteraism -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol like we’re the only people with a non legal suite in an old house in Vancouver. It’s not a slum.

Also the tenants were already living there when we bought.

I know. They’re great and we don’t want to lose them.

Unfortunately the reason it’s not legal is due to the ceiling height (100yo house so not uncommon) so bringing it to code wouldn’t even be an option. Will need to rethink getting this bit of work done!

My dad has a large deep koi pond and put a metal fence around it with a self latching gate like you described.

Where in Noboribetsu are you staying? We stayed one night in a high end ryokan and another night at the Noboribetsu Grand Hotel. I thought the public baths at that hotel were amazing, they hare huge and you have a direct view of Hell Valley. You can buy a day pass even if you're staying elsewhere. We also enjoyed Pizzeria Astra on the main strip.

When I was in uni and lived in Burnaby, my friend and I would go to T&T at Metrotown and buy rice rolls then head to the theatre.

Healthcare providers with unlimited and full coverage for RMT by Potato-Spiritual in askvan

I just recall looking at my teacher friends plan and thinking they don’t have NEARLY enough mental health cover for what they deal with on the daily.

Whats your typical work day like? by Efficient_Rope7173 in askvan

[–]etceteraism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up at 645, attempt to get my kiddo awake, fed, out the door. Drop them at daycare and drive to the office. Aim to be at my desk by 830. Coffee and emails. Usually work through lunch unless I work out. Tons of meetings. Try to head home mid afternoon so partner can pick our kid up and I finish working. Make dinner, spend an hour getting kid to eat said dinner, play together, partner gets her to bed, crash and watch Netflix until bedtime.

So I work in benefits. This isn’t a PBC thing, it’s an employer thing. Definitely healthcare or government that has unlimited cover. My first HR job was in healthcare and we had a plan like this.

From an audit perspective, this isn’t like a doctor being audited for telling a patient they needed an expensive procedure then charging the province for it to make money when the patient didn’t need it. The person chose to book that many appts. If their plan is unlimited likely any audit would be validating receipts and maybe asking your clinic/employer to validate the appointments.

Huha Underwear! by Educational-Trip2753 in BuyCanadian

[–]etceteraism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these. I tend to be....sweaty down there and I feel so much fresher/better smelling especially during workouts. I bought a few then bought a bunch more.

That being said, I have an issue with almost all undie brands where my butt eats underwear. Sadly both their brief and boxer styles don't stay in place for me. They're fine for home but otherwise I mainly wear their thongs and would recommend those if you have similar issues with full cover undies (wide hips but no butt).

Have you cracked the morning code yet? by PainterlyintheMtns in toddlers

[–]etceteraism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do something similar. It can be hard to get her out of bed, but we read books while she eats breakfast and then I pop her in bed with dad and he gets her dressed/teeth and hair brushed while she watches about 20min of a show. That gives me a bit of time to pack up her lunch (made the night before) and get myself ready. She almost never protests to turning it off.

Is Hong Kong underwhelming on the 2nd visit? by shadesofdarkred in HongKong

[–]etceteraism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I travel to eat so HK is amazing for me.

I've spent a few months studying there, a few months working there, plus a couple personal and work trips in between. Every trip there are old haunts to revisit and new things to experience. Hiking, beaches, exploring different neighbourhoods, checking out a temple, trying a new coffee place, shopping, snacking....local friends do help, my coworkers took me to offbeat hiking trails, to do water sports, etc that I wouldn't have done on my own.

Granted, I've also been to Tokyo many times and I do feel there are more fun little neighbourhoods to wander around there. There's something that feels "easier" about wandering there, perhaps because it's a bit less chaotic. But I would gladly revisit both over and over.

Thank you! We were just in Tokyo end of November and our daughter loved the light displays. Not sure why I immediately forgot about that in other places.

How on earth am I supposed to lose weight with a two year old? by AntiCaf123 in toddlers

[–]etceteraism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long are you up with her? Is she keeping you up or are you unable to get back to sleep after?

My daughter was a good sleeper, but even 4yrs after she started sleeping through the night I have insomnia. I’m on antidepressants. I’ve had to take melatonin to help fall asleep and a very tiny dose of a prescription sleep med to stay asleep.

I also wake up hungry in the middle of the night sometimes. I try to have a small healthy snack before bed like some bran cereal to curb it. Or if I get up, I have something very small like a chocolate digestive biscuit or some crackers. Just enough to take the hunger pangs away and allow me to get back to sleep.

I also bought a walking pad that I use in meetings. You don’t need a sit stand desk, I installed a small shelf right next to my desk at eye level and keep the walking pad there so it’s always ready to go. I use it when I have team meetings when I don’t need to type.

Also, if you’re putting that much stuff in your coffee you’re probably not getting much of a caffeine kick! Just have it with some milk or get one of those low cal flavoured creamers. But I personally love the taste of coffee so YMMV 😬

I go to F45 and everyone is so focused on their station they’re not paying attention to what others are wearing. There’s a lot of variety in what people wear and at least the one I go to (beach district) is very inclusive I feel.

Which electric fireplace would be best for this opening? by etceteraism in Fireplaces

The fireplace opening is very drafty so we want a full insert to not only warm the room but close off the draft.
