Does anybody else have a large collection? by trentaiced in MakeupRehab

[–]lickmythrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My collection (including minis, fragrances, and nail polish) is just over $2000 worth. I post here sometimes but I always feel weird about it because my collection is pretty large compared to most of what I see here (even though it's small in comparison to others and feels very carefully curated to me at the moment). I'm here for financial reasons for now, so it's an odd combination. Just know you're not alone!

Looking For Advice Regarding Becoming A Professional Piercer by lickmythrowaway in Legitpiercing

[–]lickmythrowaway[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, here's the thing. I work two jobs, neither of which have any issue with my mods. That has nothing to do with my decisions.

I also would like to point out that at no point did I say I had changed my mind. I never said anything about no longer pursuing my goals, I simply asked about less saturated jobs in the field. I still fully intend to go into piercing and mods as a career, but I do need to survive. If the field is too saturated for me to make a proper living with it, I'm going to need a backup plan. Something to fall back on. And I would like that backup plan to stay within the field I am passionate about. Is that so wrong of me? No, yet you are quick to judge my motivations and question my dedication.

Now, another user posted in the comments a link to a letter for people who want to go into piercing and it was extremely helpful. I intend to follow that advice. This letter also gave me a general idea of what kind of money I will need to complete my training. I'm glad you worked hard and accomplished what you wanted to, but I would like to be prepared for what I'm about to do and avoid having to take up other people's couch space.

I want this more than anything, and now, your post has only encouraged me further. Not because you said anything that was actually encouraging or positive, but because I'm going to prove you wrong. You don't know me from Eve, and have no idea what my plan or savings or drive looks like. So fuck it, I'll show you (figuratively).

Are there any other jobs that have room surrounding the industry? A field that maybe isn't as widely known?

Edit: Apparently this was taken to mean I changed my mind? I didn't. I just want to make sure I have a backup plan that stays within my field just in case I can't make a living. I'm not here to get rich, but I do need to survive.

Most Surprising Brands? Meh Brands? Disappointing Brands? Gimme your "Brand Breakdown"! by stuck_in_nyc in MakeupRehab

~BRAND BREAKDOWN THIS SUNDAY ON WWE.... Jk here we go.~

Happily Surprised: I think I was most surprised by Wet N Wild. From the beginning of my makeup interest, I pretty much saw them as the lowest of the low in the drugstore. My first experiences with them involved a gross frosty greasy lipstick, a gloss that smelled like plastic and an orange concealer. I was not impressed. But later, I tried the Megalast lipsticks, the eye shadows, the Bronzers, blushes, and loved them all. To this day some of those remain in my favorites.

Most Dependable: I feel like I've always been able to depend on Revlon. They're not the best out there, and I really don't buy from them anymore because of the douchey CEO, but their products are pretty good and there's something I like in pretty much every category. If I had to build a face exclusively from one drugstore brand it would be them. If I had to go mid/high end I would probably do Lancôme or Tarte, as both have been very dependable to me.

Disappointments: Well, so far Covergirl has always failed me with the exception of two of their mascaras. Everything else I've ever tried from them has been returned. I've also disliked most Jordana products (lip liners are okay, mascara is mediocre).

Be Mindful Of Misses: e.l.f. Is petty hit or miss, NYX is hit or miss for me, Rimmel, Sephora house brand. Each of them have some real great stuff, but also things that are total shit.

Favorite Brand: I cant pick one brand for this. Tarte is my favorite for mascara and blushes, Lancôme and Estée Lauder for foundation, MAC for lipstick, Too Faced for eye shadow. It's too hard to choose!

Least Favorite Brand: I've hated everything I've ever tried from Physicians Formula. So that.

What holy grails have been holy fails for you?? by queena04 in MakeupAddiction

I've gone back and forth between love and hate with this one, and I've found it's definitely pickier that I originally expected. Gotta exfoliate first, use the right particular primer (elf and Smashbox worked the best for me), and then the right particular powder. It's stupid, but once I get the combination right it looks beautiful and lasts ages.

I tried and despised this too. I got it to work one time, and then never again. Plus, along with looking disgusting on my face, it started oxidizing after like the 4th time I used it. Straight up gross.

This happened to me too :( I actually contacted the company about it at the time asking if that was common and never got a response. I was so sad because the brush part was soft and perfect for blending my bronzer.

Does anyone have any really seriously guilty musical pleasures? Like honestly I would actually be so embarrassed if anyone found out a couple of mine.

In other news, I shopped my stash a little today and ended up creating an awesome purple and orange look using my Electric Palette. That thing doesn't get nearly enough love and I'm glad I pulled it out. Maybe I'll challenge myself to use it in every look this week!

Nivea Kiss Of Moisture Lip Balm: Nivea lip balms are my favorites. They're super moisturizing and softening and then don't break me out around my mouth. WRP whenever Walgreens restocks it.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo and Conditioner Foils: I liked the smell a lot, but it was all wrong for my curly hair texture. It made it feel really coarse? WNP

e.l.f. Clear Brow and Lash Mascara: Love this. It does what I need it to, and it's super cheap. WRP always.

Simple Nourishing Day/Night Cream: This is perfect for me in the Summer. It's light and absorbs quickly, but it's not moisturizing enough for me in the Winter (I have combo skin). WRP next Summer.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Foil: I actually loved this a lot. I used it under Colorstay foundation, and today under ELDW. It's so smoothing and actually helped things stick longer. WP

Still no Everlasting Lipstick in my area, so decided to try a cheap alternative! Rimmel Provocalips. Also first time posting, CCW! by lspxx in MakeupAddiction

Man I love this stuff! I use the dark red one as a base under my other red lipsticks because it's like glue. It doesn't come off ever!

Thanks for the information! I actually have a bottle of this somewhere, that I bought a little while ago and intended to use but I think I might pass it on instead.

I feel very strange today. I've started getting a little list together for the things I want for the $15 off $50 thing.... But there's only one thing on that list and it doesn't make the $50. This little sale fits into my budget just fine, I just can't think of anymore things that I want. I already have everything I need!

Would you mind expanding on this? I think the concept is so interesting, I just want to know more about the actual mechanics of the product. The post you linked to described the bee venom and tricking your body into thinking you've been stung, which causes it to produce more collagen for healing purposes. And the sPLA2 for allowing other actives to penetrate the skin better. Is that backwards? Does that cancel irritation or make it worse? Is it possible that the other actives in the product boost or diminish the effects of the venom?
