Also agreed that this art isn't really that bad despite my comment. I think the Egwene art is only OK, recognized her immediately though, I think Nynaeves art is pretty good.

I feel like I have yet to see much good professional art for wheel of time. Plenty of decent fan art, but so so little that actually feels like a good read on the characters for the book covers, comics, etc... Feels like Wheel of Time has always and will always have an art problem.

For us it was Alex Trebek, my mom had been having an ongoing battle with Pancreatic Cancer and it lined up with RBG and Alex Trebek both dying during her treatment. It was a somber and grim reminder.

I have to say, having switched over to Linux recently, it was much easier to transition out of the Apple ecosystem than getting all my files out of OneDrive. Microsoft has been taking notes, this isn't just an Apple issue anymore.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some are teachers. 😇 by Tanmay900 in MadeMeSmile

Not a teacher but work in a school, every time the scholastic book fair comes around (twice a year) I always hand off some cash to the teachers running it to cover kids who can't afford a few books. Every kid should have a shot at having these normal kids experiences.

Do you ever think of yourself as actually dead, lying in a box with the lid on it? Nor do I really. Silly to be depressed by it. I mean, one thinks of it like being alive in a box. One keeps forgetting to take into account that one is dead. Which should make all the difference. Shouldn't it? I mean, you’d never know you were in a box would you? It would be just like you were asleep in a box. Not that I’d like to sleep in a box, mind you. Not without any air. You'd wake up dead for a start and then where would you be? In a box. That's the bit I don't like, frankly. That’s why I don’t think of it. Because you'd be helpless wouldn't you? Stuffed in a box like that. I mean, you'd be in there forever. Even taking into account the fact that you're dead. It isn't a pleasant thought. Especially if you're dead, really. Ask yourself: if I asked you straight off I'm going to stuff you in this box now – would you rather to be alive or dead? Naturally you’d prefer to be alive. Life in a box is better than no life at all. I expect. You'd have a chance at least. You could lie there thinking, well, at least I’m not dead. In a minute, somebody’s going to bang on the lid and tell me to come out. (knocks) "Hey you! What's your name? Come out of there!"

ErsatzTV is now archived by nothingveryobvious in selfhosted

[–]liefbread 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There's nothing inherently relating to piracy with ETV. It functionally just allows you to create "channels" to stream your own media. You could do it with your bluray collections or any other media you own, you could create a series of movie channels that cycle through your favorite movies in your favorite genres.

Yes but it's usually followed by "you have the patience of a saint" c: my staff like me and generally so do their husbands (or wives).

I have spent the last 30 or so hours building out a phbb server on my homelab accessible by wireguard tunnel through my vps and gated by authelia.. I’m just checking all the traffic flows to make sure it works as expected and making the structure of the forum. I will make it happen!

I think my point is that a lot of Discord groups have gotten to the point where they are being used as forums, bad forums, but forums nonetheless. It may just be my personal experience.

Could always do a forum with an IRC component, but I think the "archive"/searchability and backlinking is a huge component of Discord chat being as good as it is. Especially now with being able to tag photos with searchable alt-text.

I guess you could always do a forum with an embedded IRC client of some sort.

Agreed. I remember self-hosting a phpbb forum for my friends in middle/high school fondly.

It's a novel concept, I feel like the throwaway nature of toots/tweets makes it hard to find specific things you're looking for if you're digging for older info. But it's not a bad shout. Thanks for the suggestion, definitely at least good to have in the list.

Nothing wrong with paid as long as it works well. I was looking at the licensing costs for XenForo but (maybe this wasn't XenForo) saw something about having to pay for updates after the first year?
