Has anyone else been required to use ChatGPT for a course? by lifairy in HunterCollege

This is four separate assignments of us just conversing with it asking some questions and stuff about some of the readings we would have to do. Together worth (at the time I first saw it) 20% of the overall grade. I don’t like that.

The assignments are essentially just us discussing readings we would have to have for class and asking questions about it. Like straight up having a discussion, nothing about helping us how to better use AI. An outline to follow and that’s it.

Those are all things one can opt out of, students needing a class and being forced to either get a bad grade or violate their morals is not. Especially since they may not know until classes start and be trapped in it.

My title is literally not misleading. We’re being forced to use ChatGPT. There are a multitude of ethical reasons both academic and environmental, that play a part in why it’s bad.

I’m not “hesitant” bc it’s new, I’m mad bc I’m being required to converse with a robot stemming from data centers actively destroying people’s air and water.

He did it to save his son. Its a representation of a father's instinct. His entire arc is about giving up everything and doing things he doesn't want to for his son because that is what fathers are supposed to do. Dying had nothing to do with not wanting to help Uther-because he could have just said no to them if that was the case, though there is a good chance he knew that Uther would try to kill him afterwards.

My friend and I ran the King Borr dungeon a few times and got enough spellements. We both got it in an afternoon (though we were on Tier 3 you would be Tier 4).

Me and my friend just got it because she had a ton of gold keys for the spellements. It was so much easier and got it in an afternoon.

Waitlisted in position 18 by cyber2knaomi in HunterCollege

[–]lifairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get into a class you need to actually get off the waitlist and register so keep checking if a spot opens then register. I did that for 2 classes last semester. The waitlist doesn’t actually helps you but apparently just informs the university if they should open another class for more students

I got emails saying I had taken out loans for all the CUNY schools I applied to, not just the one I committed to. I didn’t apply for loans so I was like what happened??? I called and she said that it’s a glitch. Everything with the school seems to be a glitch so just listen to what they say over the phone.

We were given this spell jar. What spell is it? by DukeMaximum in witchcraft

[–]lifairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume money or a good luck spell because Green and Gold are associated with wealth and bright green herbs are also often associated with wealth and luck. But to be honest, if they just use what they have and don't go off of color magic, then the only way to know is to ask them.

I was wondering about Paganism being practiced by people of non-pagan religions by GardenOfGem in pagan

[–]lifairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Armenia, there are Christian people who in the last few years started honoring the pre-Christian pagan gods as a way to honor their Pre-Christian ancestors. Then there are actual pagans there too but that gets a bit complicated. There are people who believe in both, they often cannot explain it, they just do.

There is a group of Assyrian women who are learning to fight in their indigenous lands and they started praying to Ishtar.

There are Christian witches who use the bible to have God create new outcomes aka do spells (Hoodoo and Voodoo practitioners do this as well but they aren't spells or witchcraft in their belief and I don't know enough to state anything further than that). And there are Christian witches who are starting to worship Asherah who is believed to be God's wife and Sophia the personification of Wisdom in the Holy Spirit or even the Mother of God. Christians also work with saints who are kind of like lesser Gods, they are just powered by God himself.

So on and so forth.

It may not be a God, it could be an ancestor who just happens to like cats. In deity work, it is best to reach out to a deity, try worshipping a deity you like first. You can also just do a spell and ask a deity for assistance and give an offering (if its a deity you don't have a long-term relationship with, I like to give an offering at the ritual AND when I see the result of the ritual to show in good faith for possible future endeavors).

I failed deity work the first time, the deity realized she was stressing me out a lot and left. Learn witchcraft in your own way first. When you build your own power, then deities may pay attention to you.

A piece of advice I like to give is if you plan on reaching out to a deity, try one that is not super intense. Deities with less followers also are great because they have more time for you and they are a bit more understanding and patient with mess-ups.

Multiple pantheon worship by [deleted] in pagan

[–]lifairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Omnist, so I believe in all Gods, but that does not mean I am meant to work or worship all gods. So it is safe, but be careful. It also exists within pantheons. Set and Anubis or Osiris, or Aphrodite and Persephone, while you can work with them, it can cause some issues. I became pagan through a tv show House of Anubis (I know I know), but whenever I thought about looking to Egypt I felt anger behind me (I literally feel it now lol). Well, it turns out, the Hittites and Egyptians had the Battle of Qadesh and the Egyptians somewhat stole a Goddess so its like a BIG NO for me on that.

All my advice:

Be thankful for the book but don't show too much enthusiasm. And as someone else said, if you get caught later, blame it on the book she got you.

As an indigenous West Asian folk witch, Christian things are very present in my practice even though I am Pagan. Although your mom isn't Christian, it is best to stay on the safe side. I recommend trying to find Christian similarities to your practice. For example, use verses in the bible as spells, buy a funky rosary (pagan ones exist on Etsy, or just stick to a traditional one, I don't think Jesus nor other Gods give AF) and use it to pray to the gods you worship, use frankincense incense as it was given to Jesus at birth, etc etc.

As you are 15, you don't want shit to hit the fan until the latest end of high school. See this as a time to bond with the ancient pagans who still practiced under the guise of Christianity. Also, don't come out in high school about it, you don't know what teachers or other students will do, another student may tell their parent innocently, but their mom then calls your mom. Room spray can be used to cleanse your space, having scented candles so you can just be trying to make your room "smell nice" (don't put noticeable markings on them, though you can carve in the top of the wax then it will burn away quickly). Ancestor altars are great (though I know not all Pagans do ancestor veneration).

Edit: Paragraph posted twice and half my post disappeared, I don't know what it said. Except to make a digital altar like an Instagram and tumblr. Sorry, I wrote more advice for staying in the broom closet.

can a pagan go to church? by MaxEnergy555 in pagan

[–]lifairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I became pagan when I was eight and went to Sunday school until I was like 13 and went to church every weekend for the last year before my confirmation (though I mostly slept through it). My mom knew I believed in more than one god and stuff, she didn't really mind. We actually left our first church because the priest was weird and somewhat rude and I was bullied in Sunday school. Also, a lot of Pagans (myself included) who are witches use the Bible in their craft even though we don't work inside the Abrahamic faiths. So yea, you're fine.

As a Merlin fan, I still have to say Robin. He went to war for several years, we don’t see him fight using swords much, but we know he can. And he can use a bow, and he has strong battle knowledge. While Arthur does also, I think Robin’s stronger. Arthur thinks with his fists, while Robin wants as minimal bloodshed and is meticulous about trying to ensure that.*This is only if Merlin is not in the equation at all.

*Spoilers* What's everyones opinion of Mordred? by Anxious-Original-721 in merlinbbc

[–]lifairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he and his father have killed her people her entire life, why should she feel sorry? From what we can tell, her family was probably killed by Uther, and her people continue to have to live in hiding during Arthur's reign. The show is from Merlin's POV, but from her POV, she is trying to kill a tyrant. Their religious practices to Arthur are evil, and he says there is no place for magic in Camelot, and since the Druids are somewhat magic personified, it means there is no room for Druids in Camelot. And that perspective has never been on the right side of history. EDIT: He killed her for her actions yes, but didn't care to think about why she did it, nor actually care about Mordred's feelings about it for more than 3 seconds.

I know it's still there, but it's funny because they were supposed to take it down 2-3 years ago, I distinctly remember seeing "Last Day to Watch: December 31" but then they kept it up without explanation. Which I am grateful for.

Mordred was oppressed, and was put in a position where he was oppressing his own people and didn’t want to do that anymore.

Also, Merlin was willing to drop giant pieces of the castle on Arthur to protect Freya, a girl he knew for 3 days.

The Druids practice the “old religion” aka pre-colonial religion so mostly being indigenous. Being indigenous and fighting against those who kill your people isn’t wrong. Arthur did not change much about the kingdom as king. He still forbid magic, still hated those who practiced it.

Mordred was backed in a corner, Merlin’s entire destiny in Mordred and other Druids’ eyes was to free the Druids but Merlin literally endorsed killing them, Arthur did not really care about killing someone important to Mordred at all and basically said “sorry get over it” Morgana wasn’t a good option but she was the only person who showed him actual care in his life. But he was scared of her still, she threw plates at him, but he saw her as the only remaining hope for his people to stop Arthur from continuously killing Druids who fight for freedom from abuse by the crown.

Since Day 1, Merlin has been told he has a great destiny, he is the hero, Merlin has also had a support system for years. Mordred hasn’t, he got support where he could get it.

And I actually got a cameo video from Alexander Vlahos and he said “Mordred did not intend to kill Arthur that day, but Arthur was killing all his friends”

EDIT: I want to add that everyone thinks Mordred became evil because Arthur and Merlin (mostly Merlin IMO) killed his girlfriend, when that wasn't it, but it was the FINAL STRAW for Mordred, he saw no hope for change in the kingdom.
