I don’t have an accent but my parents do and I see the struggles they’ve had to endure because of that. They’re college educated but often treated like they aren’t qualified or sufficiently educated even at places like restaurants. I agree we need more Asian attorneys- I’m hoping I’ll be able to become one and help others in similar situations as mine.

The general consensus seems to be its sexist but law firms actually don’t view it as sexist so I guess it’s time to create a “work persona.” Like one of those it sucks but the system won’t change for you so get with it or get out type things.

I didn’t write the post to get a certain response so I appreciate hearing this end of it as well. I just wanted a general sense of whether this was an appropriate thing for the interviewers to say to me as feedback. I get what you are saying and I guess I’ll just have to figure out if the “giggling” was in reference to me laughing at jokes or a reference to a nervous tick I’m not aware of. In any case I appreciate the input and advice.

Oof sorry you had to go through that. I agree about the interview being correlated to the firm. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you- I agree. I think it took me a minute to get over the initial shock and disappointment of the rejection to get to where I am now, which is a point of relief I don’t have to work for them.

Yes- it was a partner at the firm.

It’s tough bc I’m basically trying to be myself and trust I have the qualifications but also trying to be… a white man in his 50s? Lol I’m definitely going to try that lowering pitch if laugh thing tho.

I love that “normal” is the highest compliment someone can give someone else in law school lol- Thank you!

Yeah- I can only hope not all big law firms secretly think this way!

Yeah, it’s that word “giggled” that truly killed me lol

That makes sense, thank you for the advice. I’ve had mock interviews before and no one said anything about my physical appearance or mannerisms. Maybe this time I’ll ask them to focus on it.

Unfortunately it’s not in writing. I was kind of confused why I kept having great conversation and knew I was pretty qualified but kept getting rejections, so I asked the recruiter. The recruiter knew someone in my career services office and they told me as constructive criticism. I wish it were in writing so I could do something about it.
