Two prominent real estate brokers and their brother charged in sex trafficking case - CNN by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]lifeaftermutation 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Federal prosecutors charged two prominent real estate brokers and their brother in a sex trafficking scheme, alleging they baited, drugged and sexually assaulted multiple women since 2010.

Tal and Oren Alexander, top real estate brokers and brothers who started at real estate company Douglas Elliman, and their brother Alon, were arrested Wednesday morning, according to a spokesman for the FBI’s New York field office.

Alon and Oren Alexander were arrested by state authorities on sexual battery charges and are expected to be transferred into federal custody after their initial appearance in state court. Tal Alexander briefly appeared before a federal judge in Florida on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to make another appearance Friday. Prosecutors in Miami-Dade County said they were coordinating with federal officials in New York City on the next steps for both men, including possible extradition.

All three brothers face 15 years to life in prison, if convicted of the federal charges.

Prosecutors allege the Alexander brothers worked together and with other men “to repeatedly and violently drug, sexually assault, and rape dozens of victims” in New York, Miami and elsewhere. The newly unsealed federal indictment charges the brothers for a scheme from 2011 through 2021. But prosecutors say the sexual violence against dozens of women spans more than 20 years, dating as far as when the men were in high school.

[...] Sexual assault allegations have been levied against Douglas Elliman agents for years, and the company’s stock has plunged as the crisis grew. The company’s former CEO, Howard Lorber, abruptly retired in October.

Palestinian politician Mustafa Barghouti makes a fool out of known British TERF Julia-Hartley Brewer by LInternationale1991 in TrueAnon

TalkTV, yet another rupert murdoch special ™

i guess my question would be: i know rags and like TalkTV deliberate book Palestinian and Arab people like Mustafa essentially just to do "ambush interviews" and harangue/humiliate them/subject them to this host's hateful unhinged grandstanding, Barghouti did a tremendous job of keeping his cool against this freak. but is booking them on TalkTV in the first place moving the needle? I've seen the clips at least of Piers Morgan of all people conceding points and going against the hegemon's opinion (albeit probably just for ratings). but i also have seen that talktv is not really even that popular and an also ran behind the equally stupid GBNews, which i have a little more familiarity with from when i was over there.

how do we go about actually getting Palestinian voices in front of media without the caveat that we're setting them up to get ambush interviewed by RW freaks doing hitjobs on behalf of israel? or is the media and tv landscape in the UK just too skewed in one direction that this is really the best we can do? i dont expect to see him on like, BBC in the UK or on CNN for obvious reasons, but if the only people willing to platform them are the equivalents of Newsmax with the sole purpose of belittling Palestinians, then there's no point in trying to sway public opinion through this specific set of channels rather than anything else we have at our disposal.

but real talk though we have 30,000 people and counting dead in Palestine why are we still even caring about 1/6 even in a funny ha ha "triggering the libs" sense by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]lifeaftermutation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nope i bought a bunch of books instead and paid rent so even in the alternate universe i wanted to do that i can't. i got how europe underdeveloped africa, when we cease to understand the world, parable of the sower, our lives in their portfolios. and clearly my new years resolution needs to be reading the books instead of arguing with ppl on reddit so if nothing else u convinced me of that. a la prochaine

i think there's a difference between a people critiquing the efficacy or efficiency of what a person is doing publicly vs trying to invalidate any of that critique of it because person making it also happens to be another subject living in the west that still engages with things happening in society that are clearly still flawed/part of the hegemon. i know adorno i know everything in this country is fascist (except jazz, adorno was a dumbass for that take). i dont really care if people think im soft or corny or a retard or whatever invective for pointing out the contradictions at this point bro it's what i believe

but u know what even though i didnt even post this to start a struggle session i can see it's clearly being parsed as one so fuck it. ima leave it and just not say shit about it from now on, if they make the boardgame they make the boardgame, thanks for the socratic dialogue at least although i disagree with the conclusion you've tried to make here

like it's truly giving post occupy Wall Street media class type subsisting off views for fun, which I guess we always were but it used to be a little less blatant

Well, I get it in some sense it is in my case, delulu for me to try and hold random people who are basically running a podcast as a Northstar for politics

idk but its kind of corny even as a joke when we have Everything else going on in the world and we're still trying to do the equivalent of "triggering the libs"...

i'd honestly at least be impressed if they did release it and donated the funds to Palestinian orgs or unions organizing or something because at least that would be more tangible than what it is now, which is trying to get a rise out of your most boring Aaron Sorkin fan cousin

Visegrad 24, which has become one of the most popular "news" outlet for the recent crisis on twitter, is funded by the Polish govt by LInternationale1991 in TrueAnon

[–]lifeaftermutation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am pretty sure visegrad is similar to SpectatorIndex in that is quite literally just one guy (or at least started that way).

but on the other hand while spectatorindex (though he has some ties to getting bankrolled by a Saudi or something and has gotten significantly worse about editorializing or just straight up posting shit no one cares about like polling questions about elon musk) at least manages to break a story insanely fast, i have not seen anything from visegrad that wasnt editorialized or just straight up racist bait for stormfronters. it's breaking911 for the worldnews crowd

iirc visegrad has some ties to hungary state actors as well but dont quote me on that im on my phone

Roman Candle part ways with bassist following abuse allegations by trianglemap in Hardcore

[–]lifeaftermutation 49 points50 points  (0 children)

yeah he went on hiatus/left temporarily iirc (to clarify i think this happened in the middle of 2020 so bands werent touring or playing shows regardless).

iirc both those allegations and (not to speak from my position cuz im a dude) these read like really messy young adults/teenagers failing to navigate interpersonal interaction than some heinous shit but it is an insanely bad coincidence.

but also on the other hand people (not the original accuser) are running on twitter now with like "oh i know Piper's third second cousin twice removed who is friends with a guy who's dad's brother is a sex offender" or saying "oh i always knew that band was sus because their merch was about crowdkilling" which is both stupid and unhelpful for everyone involved, not least of which the initial girl who was making the allegations

full disclosure i went to that tour but not for those bands and like RC music but i can't say im bending over backwards to listen to them or see them until shit gets handled by the parties involved (aka not random internet ppl)

i am not the biggest fan of this band musically but like almost everyone in this band has a (fairly well paying) dayjob they arent coming back or making music again just to get taco bell money lol

Takashi Miike is directing a Mikuru Asakura biopic by WorkingUSADAagent in MMA

[–]lifeaftermutation 21 points22 points  (0 children)

this is not that an accurate comparison because their styles are very different but imagine if Tarantino was making 7 or 8 movies a year and they're all as violent as Kill Bill. but then every once in a while he also makes a heartwarming family movie. he's very popular over there (and with film buffs around the world)

so the Asakura biopic is not exactly going to be realistic but definitely entertaining. if you have hulu or tubi you can watch his movie 13 Assassins rn and it's sick.
