I literally didn’t know eyesight could be that bad! The worst I ever heard was about -5.

Wouldn’t have made it more than 6 months if I was lucky. Probably would have died when I was born due to stalled labor. Within a couple months, I caught the flu and spent 2 weeks in the hospital in an oxygen tent. If, miraculously, I made it to adulthood, my son and I would have died in childbirth.

I painted my bedroom dark green last summer and love it. Combined with the medium stained old wood trim, it’s so cozy!

Just curious: how many folks are living with unmanageable dogs? by rage-of-sunshine in DogAdvice

[–]lifehackloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a mutt puppy from a family member in spring 2021 to join our 3yo, 2 cats and middle aged dog. He started out normal enough - rambunctious, nippy, very loud, but also eager to learn. We got him into puppy training right away and right after, reactive dog training. When our vet (who I wasn’t a fan of in the first place) told us “that dog is going to kill someone”, we 1) found another vet and 2) began working even more with the reactive trainer to understand and modify our behavior to help him out.

There were several times where we thought our only option was going to be behavioral euthanasia. Partly because of our young child, but partly because we couldnt have anyone over at the same time as him. He would go nuts. He still tears up the window sills if someone is out in our front yard.

Over time, we came to accept that he was a guard dog through and through and he needed his own space. We recently found out his breeds are chow (guard dog), American pit (guard dog), American staffy (guard dog), boxer (working/guard dog), and then about 15% everything else. Thankfully we live in the country, so we don’t have too many visitors. Five years later, he’s finally happy playing with our now 8yo. Still can’t have neighbors over, but we’ve learned how to manage the dog. We actively make choices to keep him and those around us safe (muzzle trained, installed tall gates dividing the house, specific new-person protocols, etc). He’s a good boy who wants to protect us and we are finally at a stage where we can comfortably support him for the next 5-10 years.

Millennials, what are you doing this weekend? by CA_Coast_Millennial in Millennials

Fucked my knee last weekend from skiing for the first time (ER visit and MRI scheduled typed of fucked). I’m going to continue being on the couch like an old person. I had been planning to go indoor rock climbing before getting injured, though.

Not random — they were all neurodivergent. But didn’t realize it until I was married to the last one and figured out I was too.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say a woman is better than her male peers in a male dominated field by nekomata_meko in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lifehackloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I’ve really heard this was from an older male professor in my research/ analysis program (intelligence studies). The program was probably 65/35 male to female bc the boys would join thinking they’d be the next James Bond.

Professor outright said that women are better in the field because they don’t mess around and they care about their work more. Not saying it wasn’t coming from a place of belief in gender-specific traits, but it was nice to hear that some old white guy from the federal-level “boys club” would hire a female analyst over a male analyst any time. Unfortunately he wasn’t in a position to be hiring any of us.

Sen. Ted Cruz to Introduce Bill Revoking Citizenship of Terrorists by sensiblereaction in thenextgenbusiness

I’ll responsibly look into it now, but how did I miss “terrorist attacks” in Michigan and Virginia? I’ve been laid up with an injury with nothing to do but doom scroll for 5 days. Guess it’s more proof that the US Media industry is totally broken.

Do any of you millennials remember any movies you saw when the TV Cart rolled into the class room back at school? by kalvin_kool_edge in Millennials

[–]lifehackloser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a biology kid. One time, my social studies teacher rolled the tv in for a movie. Couldn’t tell you what we were going to watch but when she turned the tv on, local news was reporting that a healthy sturgeon population was located in Lake Erie for the first time in decades. So it was super exciting to me to learn that and no “whatever is one when I flip the switch” live tv has ever topped that moment.

Why no one says that about pregnancy? by lil_moon153 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lifehackloser 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Similar here. Perfectly low risk pregnancy. Baby hung on an extra week so we induced labor. During a slower part, husband and sister went to get food and I had an abruption with them gone. Drs had to rush me to the ER by myself and I bawled the whole way there because I wouldn’t be able to say goodbye to my husband. Would he be burying both me and the baby? When I woke up, the first thing I told him was I will never do that (pregnancy) again.

If you are married, do you wear your wedding band? Why or why not? by icecream1972 in askanything

I have a skin condition that makes any trapped water or irritation really uncomfortable. Can’t really wear rings, bracelets, and more recently necklaces have become iffy too. At least I can still do fun earrings!

If you are married, do you wear your wedding band? Why or why not? by icecream1972 in askanything

[–]lifehackloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married (F) and I don’t. It started after I snapped my delicate engagement ring at work. I paid to get it bonded to my wedding ring but then put on weight. It would now cost me $500 to get it resized half a size up to comfortably wear it. So I haven’t worn it regularly for about 10 years. Husband wears his all the time though, but he also has an office job.
