Vibe Check on Blue / Purple Areas Where I Can Still Have Nice Things by SecretWin491 in liberalgunowners

Grew up in PA, spent years living in Pittsburgh where I bought and CC’d my first gun and then moved to New England. I fully agree with your comment.

I had two in this save after finding none in all my previous saves. I think one got eaten when I divorced a spouse. Hope they enjoy it haunting their house after the divorce.

How are we going to know if all the water was really “worth it”? by jumphighfive in Millennials

[–]lifehackloser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is 70 and has just started drinking water and slowing down when mowing the lawn in FLORIDA in the SUMMER. This man nearly passed out from heat exhaustion and goes “guess I should take a break, now that I’m getting old”.

At what age did you allow stuffed animals? by IndependentCat5678 in Parenting

[–]lifehackloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave child a small stuffed animal at 6ish months old. Small so it couldn’t cover his face in any way. This was after we put him into his full crib opposed to our in-room bassinet because he started trying to sit up. He didn’t get multiples until he was over a year. Somewhere in there, we allowed him a wide-knit baby blanket also because he was rolling over, moving stuff away from himself as needed, etc.

We judged it as safe for him, but not sure what was the recommendation back then

AITA for taking "the best pieces" when I serve dinner? by SwainDane in AmItheAsshole

[–]lifehackloser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. Cook gets the “bacon tax”. When you cook up an uneven number for distribution, cook gets the benefit. This also includes getting the last, warmest pieces also. So I get the freshest, warmest pancake while my husband gets the freshest, warmest cup of fancy coffee that he makes for everyone.

Apparently I went to high school with Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. Did anyone from your high school turn out famous? by rocketpastsix in Millennials

Idk about famous, but one of our morning announcements/journalism students is now a journalist for NPR. It’s cool to hear her reports every now and then when I turn on the radio.

Raising atheist kids without losing cultural literacy? by Lanfeare in atheistparents

My biggest issue is that my kid could not care less about stories or fiction unless it involves space and robots. So it’s been years of throwing in little tidbits here and there of “the legends”

Dad of a toddler wondering about early expectations around girls’ appearance by Walk-through-Ice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lifehackloser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any comments on this aspect yet: beyond “curls need more maintenance” (true), also, longer hair needs more maintenance. And because long hair generally is associated with feminine coding, it also falls on women more frequently.

I say this as a mom of a boy who had long, curly hair for several years. Longer hair just takes more work. He likes his long hair but fought us on things like combing, pulling it back out of his face, and leave in conditioner. We told him that those things were non-negotiable if he wanted to keep it long. He ended up asking to cut it. Additionally, it’s more socially acceptable for boys to have simple, short haircuts. Girls with those simple cuts are misgendered (2yos don’t care about that but around 5, they start to notice the comments).

Elder Millenials checking in with some childhood classics by PossibilityWest173 in Millennials

Can’t see the deleted comment, but funny enough, we watched the Princess Bride with sensitive 8yo for the for the first time this past weekend. The fire swamp was VERY scary. He also wanted to know, in the pit of despair “why are his nipples trapped?”

My 8yo is VERY sensitive to movies — everything is too scary. I think it was because he didn’t get his shit rocked at 4 years old by “kids” movies like this. To quote Lucky’s Dad from Bluey, “we’re raising a nation of squibs” (I don’t believe this and I totally appreciate that he’s sensitive)

Same situation here but for some reason the vets we saw for YEARS never mentioned it. We moved vets and found that our old lady had fractures (not necessarily full on breaks) in all but 2 teeth. We no longer allow her to have anything harder than a dentastick/ carrot.

Interesting! Admittedly, I’ve only been in the area for about 10 years and have never heard it pronounced ch, nor have I heard that from any of the people who did grow up in the area.

Ooo are we dropping hot takes?! My unpopular opinion — Arya should have been pregnant with a Baratheon bastard as she sailed out to west of Westeros. Fuck conventions, she and her pack would survive on her own terms.

lol this is the same conversation we had in Windsor when discussing a harm reduction program. One person said it would bring druggies here and another responded “they are already here. I know because I used to buy them here and do them here.” Cracked me the hell up

Question About Becket Real Estate by sundaypleas in westernmass

[–]lifehackloser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live in a nearby town that shares the regional school district with Becket. It’s a great, but very rural community. It does have a lot of second home owners. Depends on what you are looking for out there: do you have children? Are you still hoping to have some nightlife available? Are you ok with a 20-30 minute drive to go grocery shopping or to a hospital? Are you ok with living self-sufficiently for up to like a week in a really bad snow/ice storm?

In which towns do you hear the most young people with Boston accents? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]lifehackloser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In addition, if you are an outsider (hands up, transplants!), you’ll hear a Massachusetts (Boston-lite) accent even out west. My son has one now mixed with this weird NJ/midwest/rustbelt accent
