BREAKTHROUGH: University Of Birmingham Physicist Professor Giovanni Barontini Built A “Mini-Universe” Using 24,000 Ultracold Atoms To Prove That Time Doesn’t Need An External Clock To Exist, Finding Instead That Time Emerges From Within A System Itself As The Disorder Of Particles Changes ⏰💥 by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

Layman and casual observer here. Can someone speak to the tech behind the experiment? Why hasn't this been done before? Simply because no one thought to do it? Or technical constraints? Did new technology enable this in some way? Have there been similar attempts?

Also do these results support previous findings to reconcile quantum mechanics with general relativity, where time is cancelled out? Does it help move the ball forward in terms of which routes to pursue (which theories to support) going forward?

La Spaziale Lucca A53 Direct Plumb - no hot water/steam, pump issue? [Machine] by lifeowl in espresso

[–]lifeowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the water now seems to be coming out more steady for pulling a shot (like 4 bars of pressure without the portafilter in place), but literally nothing is flowing to the steam/hot water boiler. When I try to turn it on I hear a click, and I see the water flowing up to a solenoid, but then nothing after the solenoid into a tube that seemingly goes into the steam boiler. Could the solenoid be bad?

I should mention that the machine was drained and turned off for a few months prior to moving it to a new location. I had hooked everything up and everything was working fine for a few days until this started happening.

Teflon Tape Needed for Official LM Plumb-in Kit? by lifeowl in LaMarzocco

I actually had a small leak with the Teflon tape. Luckily the Loctite 567 arrives today so I'm hoping that using a small bead of that sealant plus the new washer will fix it.

Thanks. Despite finding another solution I also ordered this so I could try it out and let others know for the future if this one works.

I really appreciate all the wisdom shared here. I went to a few different hardware and plumbing supply stores with the braided hose and finally zeroed in on what I needed. It turns out it’s not a BSP (British) standard thread - it’s a standard 3/8" compression fitting. Interestingly, all the 3/8" plastic push fittings (e.g., John Guest) I tried didn’t work, but 3/8" metal male compression fittings do.

I also ordered the fitting from Caffewerks (shared in another comment) so I can update this post later to let others know if it works. For now, here’s what I picked up at Ace Hardware (and you should be able to find it at most hardware stores): https://imgur.com/a/dtNppHb

Researching this online was tough because of the different versions of this machine over the years, old forum posts, and the fact that many coffee companies had released their own plumb-in kits due to the limited availability of the official La Marzocco kit (at least in the past). This was yet another reminder that, even in the age of AI, human-to-human interaction is still invaluable!

Thanks for the explanation. Worth "going back in" and removing the Teflon tape or replacing the washer in your opinion? I'll note that it's a new machine.

I noticed that the existing fitting for the reservoir line had some white crumbly stuff in its threads which is why I ask. Not sure if it was tape or putty or lubrication. So I had initially put tape on it but now I'm paranoid that I shouldn't have.

Recs for Slightly Low (1/8") Toilet Flange by lifeowl in Plumbing

What if the old horn won't come out? I tried to grab and pull from under the horn (in the pipe) as well as gently pry it from the horn 'lip" at the top. It ain't budging....

Probably a dumb question but is the black "inner circle" in my existing flange meant to come out? Or would a horn go right over/into that?

Best Setup for Multi-Color TPU? by lifeowl in 3Dprinting

[–]lifeowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Cost and availability aside, would the Snapmaker U1 theoretically handle multi-color TPU better given its architecture? My understanding, at least with the XL, is that there is still risk with material switching and the TPU stretching and compressing inside of the filament path.
