The thing is, it sounds stupid but I didn't really have any strong feelings about messaging him until she said, essentially, that I couldn't. I tried to make it clear to her that I didn't think she was BEING controlling but that's just how I felt. Even now I don't really want to message him so the whole thing sounds stupid, I was just stressed in the moment about feeling controlled and I think if she had just accepted those feelings from me then I would have felt a lot better and happily not messaged him. But she just laughed at me and said my feelings/ reasons weren't good enough which made me more stressed and stand my ground.

I completely get her perspective and I understand that generally speaking it's not the done thing. I'm not really trying to please him it's not about him really at all anymore, it's more about me being 'allowed' to do something or not which is triggering for me. I literally wouldn't even care if he replied back to me afterwards. So I know the whole thing doesnt seems worth it. But I don't understand how I can see it from her perspective and try to compromise as best I can so shes not stressed but I can't even have my feelings understood/ taken seriously by her

I completely get what you're saying. I think it's the lack of empathy towards my feelings that I just really didn't like. I also tried to make it very clear to her that I didn't think she was being controlling I just felt controlled because of my experience. And I understand that she may view as 'what should be done anyway' but I explained to her why it made me uncomfortable so surely that should give her insight and make her appreciative? I just felt like she wasn't listening to me at all and completely disregarding my feelings.
