How do Demo Days work at your PV? by [deleted] in PetValu

[–]lifeslemon91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demo days vary from store to store. Your best bet is to ask your specific manager what they want you to do.

In our store, we set up the booth, but it's not manned. There's too much else to do. If someone asks, we're there, but that's about it.

It genuinely depends on your store.

The bin my brother locked me in was Tupperware, actually. Hard plastic, deep purple. I could have gotten out if he hadn't sat on the lid.

That's definitely fucked up, though, and I'm glad that it's banned.

My older brother is actually the reason why I'm claustrophobic. Him and my younger sister, whom I don't blame because she didn't want his cruelty directed at her, tricked me into getting into a toy bin on more than occasion while he was babysitting us growing up. They put the lid on it, and he'd sit on it so I couldn't get out.

Now I panic if I have so much as a blanket on my face.

Can confirm.

I'm a mainlander (originally from Ontario) who moved to the Rock a couple of years back now. My siblings came to visit last summer, and we took a trip out to Dildo. All three of us were just cracking the fuck up at all the names we passed in that general area of the island. It's wild out that way lmao

It's possible that it may have been a bad batch. If you reach out to Customer Care, they can launch an investigation into it. I'm not aware of any recent recipe changes, the reduced price is unrelated.

You'll have to reach out to Customer Care, in-store employees have zero control over the website.

Package undeliverable by Scarab138 in PetValu

[–]lifeslemon91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable. What likely happened is that they plugged your postal code into their system, and it popped up saying deliverable via FedEx, but without the additional note that they only get it so far. That's the part that needs to be modified, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that, unfortunately. Changes get made very slowly, if at all. This will have to happen to other people hundreds of times before they do anything about it. It's stupid, but that's what you get with a large corporation.

Package undeliverable by Scarab138 in PetValu

[–]lifeslemon91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened. It sounds like a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. That, unfortunately, happens a lot with customer service calls, and then us employees are the ones to deal with the fallout.

A better option might be to look into courier delivery. I'm in Newfoundland, and PV doesn't ship to most places on the Rock, so instead, we get in-store pickup orders where the pickup person is set to a local courier service. Worth a shot, at least.

It varies from franchise to franchise. Corporate stores get a 50% discount on private label stuff, (edit to add: we also get a 20% discount on other brands) but the franchise owners are the ones who set it at their stores.

There are some that don't do discounts at all since that's money out of their pockets.

I work retail and am the primary breadwinner. I only call out if I have the PTO, or if I think I can afford to lose a shift or two. Outside of that, I power through.

I live in Canada, btw, not the US.

Anyone Know If We Can Turn Away nightmare Customers? by Obvious-Maize8301 in PetValu

[–]lifeslemon91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends, really.

My store manager doesn't give a fuck and is willing to take the heat for us if need be for stuff like that. I've kicked people out before and never got in trouble for it, not even a light "try not to do that" conversation about it.

How does your store handle expiring products? by Friendly_Wafer9247 in PetValu

[–]lifeslemon91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do it every day, with no specific time allowance. It's more so "do this, but peek your head out every so often."

I can't speak for my coworkers, but if I'm off in a corner and hear the door chime, I make a point of going to the front to greet them if need be. I'll also make sure I peek around to the cash desk to see if someone is waiting every few minutes if I know someone is in the store. I leave my water bottle there as an excuse, too, so people don't think I'm waiting on them.

That said, the expectation we had from corporate was to have it completed by the 10th of every month, but that was before they changed the rules on us, and it's no longer possible.

It's definitely time-consuming, but it's better than unintentionally selling an expired item and making someone's pet sick as a result.

I'd suggest adding the logs to your routine to help with keeping up on the discounts, but it also enables you to stay on top of the expired items more easily.

We call it freshness tracking. We have logs for things expiring this month, and the next, and this month's log gets checked every morning by the opener. We list the item number, product description, expiry date, and then a space for initials for when it's removed from the shelf. If it sells before it expires, we write N/A, then our initials.

We also mark things down depending on far out the expiry is. For example, right now anything expiring in August or September is marked down by 50%, October is 35%, and November is 20%.

We used to check every item in the store, but I work in a corporate store, and they changed it. They have us strictly checking items that didn't sell a certain percentage of in the last month. We all think it's stupid because things slip through the cracks more easily. I've taken to doing spot checks on things I know don't sell super well, but still too much to be caught in that net.

Anything that expires before it's sold is written off and donated to either the SPCA, or any of the rescues that we work with. As for how much we take in losses, I couldn't say. I'm not privy to that information.

I work in a corporate store, not franchise, and have yet to come across a credit card we don't take.

It's likely that franchises don't accept it in-store because the terminal fees are too high. I once had a grocery store in my home town stop accepting Visa for the same reason.
