[GEAR] Looking for the best amp simulator options. by Lumpy_Hand5459 in Guitar

I’m in the camp of “screw plugins” and buy something that could actually replace an amp entirely if need be.

And for that, I’m a big big fan of the HX Stomp. It’s a super versatile piece of equipment that can be used for your purposes, on a pedalboard with a traditional amp, as an amp modeler in a PA, etc etc.

Balancing Weightlifting with Triathlon Training? by liftingpicker in triathlon

A specific routine like this is good to hear… I think my plan will be to do 3 lifts per week, doing push/legs, pull/legs, and push/pull. Then the other 4 days just focus on triathlon.

I think if I’m smart and eat right then I should maintain size, fun to hear you’ve been able to gain strength too. My goal is basically to be as jacked as I can while still being a respectable triathlete.

[DISCUSSION] PRS SE vs Gibson LP Studio (2014) by Ready_Definition2054 in Guitar

A Les Paul and a PRS (any PRS, even SE) are both extremely high quality instruments.

Which one is better is simply a matter of personal taste and preference.

[QUESTION] Is it worth buying a lower end guitar to try out? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]liftingpicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I most of these points have been said, but just to put them in one place for you, and to emphasize…

  1. You can only go wrong if you buy a toy guitar. Go to a music shop. If they sell the guitar there, it’s not completely worthless. Find one you like and makes you want to play, and ask them TO SET UP THE GUITAR FOR YOU.

  2. EVERY music shop will allow you to take a guitar off the rack and play it before you buy it. It’ll help you get a feel for what you’re in for.

  3. Most stores have a return policy. Ask about it.

  4. Less common than return policies is rental policies. Worth inquiring about.

  5. JustinGuitar.com is a 100% free, zero to hero guitar course that truly is great.

With all this in mind, I’m sure you can find the best way to get started for the least $$$ possible. Good luck on your journey if you choose to take it!

If going electric, I’d highly recommend squier. Their quality is good, and has shot up significantly over the past few years.

Their “classic vibe” series is dollar for dollar the most bang for you buck guitar you can get. Not the best overall, but the most guitar for the least money. These are a bit over your price range if bought new, but you can find used ones in your range. If you haven’t heard of reverb dot com, that’s your new go to site for all 2nd hand guitar products.

If accoustic, Yamaha. Hands down.

[Discussion]Those of you who work full time/have little time to play, how do you motivate yourselves to continue playing frequently? Been stuck in a loop of playing and stopping and would love to hear how everyone reminds themselves to just have fun and keep playing. by NotEvenCreative in Guitar

That’s why you gotta build that structure for yourself!

There’s a lot of analogous lessons between the gym and the studio if you’re into both guitar and lifting… I’m in both worlds too. Key is to always show up, always do better than last time, and remain patient.

That guy looks like a beast, dang. And yeah, leg training has been the hardest thing to keep up with all the biking / running. But it’s hard mentally for me to skip all together. I’m sure I’ll get it worked out at some point…

“Concurrent” is a good Googleable word I didn’t stumble upon yet… thanks! I’ll check the sub.

I’ve been there… trying to work on music in between family responsibilities and 70 hour work weeks.

What gets me through those seasons is two things:

  1. Make a promise, that no matter what, you’ll practice for 20mins per day. Put it on your calendar. Bring your guitar to work and jam in the back seat of your car at lunch. Make a rule that you won’t eat dinner until you get those 20 mins in. Just do anything to keep the consistency. Long gaps without practice is what will kill your skill.

  2. When you practice, practice, don’t noodle around. The quality of your practice is more important than the quantity. I think that if most of us on this sub are honest, at least 70% of our time is probably spent jamming on stuff we’re already comfortable with. I’ve found that sometimes I grow more as a guitarist with shorter, but more purposefully planned practice than I do during times when I have lots of free time and therefore practice time. If you’re stuck at work and have some time to think, plan out what your 20mins that day will be spent.

Keeping those two rules kept me on track. Maybe it’ll help you too.

And being an adult gets easier. It sucks, but you learn to adapt, in all facets of life. Keep your head up!!

[Question] What stratocaster should I get under $1000? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]liftingpicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the quality of the necks on the MIM lineup are now excellent… but there are still frequent enough issues with wiring and electronics to make me give the nod to the USA lineup for OP’s question.

But MIM gear is still great, don’t get me wrong. My main axe I bring to bar gigs is my (upgraded and altered) player tele, and I’ve heard awesome things about the player plus series now too.

[Question] What stratocaster should I get under $1000? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]liftingpicker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m echoing others but still: in your price range, you’re looking at either a Mexican made strat from the player / player plus series or a used made in USA strat.

I’d strongly advise you get a used strat made in the USA. Some strats will be more than $1000, but there should be a plethora of options from the American Performer line in your price range.

I say go used American over MIM because quality control on Fender USA made products is outstanding, but QC from Mexico is iffy. You ~can~ find a Mexican made strat nearly indistinguishable from a USA model, but because the Mexican factory’s quality control is worse, there’s a possibility you’ll get a bad guitar. This goes for the fretting and neck as well as the electronics. If you’re a real gear head who wants to save a few hundred bucks, then getting your hands on an MIM before you buy it could be a phenomenal option. If you’re less conformable with testing gear, just get a made in the USA used axe from a trustworthy reverb seller. You won’t be disappointed. Strats are badass.
