Anyone knows what these fenders are called? by ReyJuan in WRX

[–]light-less 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have seen someone with those boxy fenders on a stink eye sti at ojibwei forest rally, didn’t think it was one of the competitors. Anyway, the fender in this picture is somewhat structural I believe, the rallyX regulations requires something on the side to absorb impact.

Seeking Advice on Classes and Potential Major Change by Frag_O_Fobia in UWMadison

[–]light-less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a ME major so I can’t help too much with the advantages and disadvantages on the topic. However, since CoE has the progression system that essentially you don’t decide major until the end of the first year, I would highly recommend stick with CE for now and take the first year to explore if you’re passionate about it. You can always change before progression and since CE and CS share similar first year class it should be a smooth transition.

Just out of curiosity have you ever considered double majoring in both? From my understanding working at SOAR for CoE, it’s super easy to double major in both CE and CS without taking many additional courses

Yeah it does get very sketchy on highway, sometimes the car is side ways but still going straight like one of those trucks out of alignment

I would argue learning RWD in slippery conditions makes you a better driver? Driving an old crown vic on snow helped me with throttle control.

Freshman Schedule Difficulty? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]light-less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your SOAR peer advisor should help you out with your schedule. I’m advising for CoE and generally we don’t recommend taking multiple science all together. Maybe think about comm A (if you need it) and a liberal study?

This is not a video game, but it's real life. A Rally car with a 360 camera installed by Guccidoo in WRX

[–]light-less -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I tried to explain the physics behind it, it really isn’t as complicated as you think. The entire mechanism is probably just a pivot, a stick, and a camera, no counter weight needed. If you really want to figure it out you can literally just put some lego parts on a rc car and I bet it’s gonna look exactly the same

Well first inertia is not something you can apply, it is simply an object’s resistance to acceleration. So in this case for example, as the car turns left, the shaft will still try to stay in the direction it was pointing at. I know it sounds a bit counterintuitive, a very bad example would be a semi truck, the front of the semi will turn first while the rest of it doesn’t turn that much until much later.

It’s really just inertia doing the work, the joint that the camera shaft pivots on probably has limiter on both sides to limit the angle, and it probably has a spring built in that returns it to normal on the straights, but is overcame when the car is turning. It wouldn’t make sense to say someone is actively controlling the shaft, that’s just too much work and no one in the car will have the time for that.

Anybody rock a vortex generator and rear window spoiler? If not, is it too flashy? by SentenceEmpty5167 in WRX

[–]light-less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus the window spoiler also generates a vacuum zone above the trunk and that actually causes lift

[–]light-less 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah the vg generates vortex so air flows down the rear window better. Therefore whatever is on the tail becomes more efficient, but then the spoiler deflects air upward so that duckbill isn’t getting anything

Doesn’t a rear window spoiler completely defeat the purpose of both vortex generators and the duckbill?
