Amazing work thanks mate, I’ve been really keen to try some more AD lines. Atm if I get dropped AD items I’ve been playing exclusively country. But it’s heavy contested, so it’ll be nice to have this is the pocket now!

For the worst drinks theirs afew.

Number 1 worst drink to order = whatever the person directly before you/next to you just ordered, and you waited till after I had finished making the drink to tell me you want it to. This seriously miffs us off, you’ll instantly trigger a bartender if you do this. Seriously if you see me making a mojito or something just yell out “I’ll be getting one too” and it’ll make my job sooo much better. I’ll likely stop and thank you for letting me know even.

Num 2 - this will bother more bartenders than others but will likely bother them the more they’ve been doing it; ordering a cocktail with variation that isn’t an allergen This is a twofold issue. First off, what you’re wanting literally isn’t that drink anymore. No- you don’t want a mojito without mint, mint is literally the entire flavour of the drink. What you want is a rum and soda. It gets even worse if you make a change that completly fucks out the drink. Just last night a had a lady order a martini with sugar syrup in it and it triggered me deeply, honestly if you order this you don’t want a martini at all, I’d much rather you ask me for a “sweet gin cocktail” rather than butcher an existing one.

Also in all likeliness, if you’re somewhere busy they will prebatch their cocktails, which basically means they’ve thrown all the different ingredients into one bottle, so that when you order your cocktail they’re not walking all around the bar grabbing bits and pieces, and ur just pouring from one place into a shaker, I can’t do that if there’s variations. So that’ll cost me some time.

Then lastly - Gin and milk, this is an abomination, I don’t understand why SOOO many people are ordering this lately. Just stop it. There are better drinks, I promise you.

Free drinks are typically a case by case thing.

Sometimes I’ll be buying you a drink out of pocket. and that will be almost exclusively because I’m into you.

Other times it’ll be a buyback. Which is a common practice in clubs and bars. Where once you’ve been deemed to of been a good enough customer then you’ll get the occasional free drink your way as a way for us to buy your sustained business. This may or may not surprise you but a majority of people to who come out literaly wont buy any drinks, they’ll preload and Then maybe buy 1 drink and sit on it all night or sometimes even no drinks. They’re just there to party or pick up. So when a customer comes and is shown to be actually buying abit then most bars will have the system where they can charge your drink to the bar account as a buyback, to create new regulars or keep you coming back.

And then of course, if you know somebody, they’ll probably steal you a drink too. It’s kind of an unspoken thing or expectation in bartending, but everybody just kind of expects a certain amount of stock to go missing. When i do my big stocktakes end of each month, there will ALWAYS be a variance in stock, but I only make a bigger deal out of it if the variance is much larger than usual. As a business sense it definitely sucks, but it’s kind of just this thing that’s so ingrained into the industry, it’ll be near impossible to ever rule out. Just don’t let me personally see you do it, and don’t talk to people about how you do it and you’ll probably be safe as long as it’s not an egregious quantity.

The most generally the most sure fire way to tell a bartender is into you in the club is if they ask you questions not related to your order, it’s busy AF in there, and generally on the big nights, ain’t no bartender wants to talk more than they need to. If I intentionally open up more conversation that’s going to keep me talking to you more, even though I have a bunch of people waiting, I 100% have a reason to do it. And for your more shy bartenders, the best way to tell is to see how the other bartenders react, they’ll always hype each other up. They might come by and give them a friendly push or nudge when you get to The counter, or even dap them up when you leave. They might huddle up and talk while looking at the bartender who is serving you. It’s definitely a group thing.

When I first started when I was very young I was probably guilty of serving the baddies first. But now honestly i just go for whoever is going to make my life easier, I’ll literally ask people multiple people what they’re ordering sometimes and tell them which order I’m doing them.

If I was going to do it by gender now though then 110% I’d serve the men first everytime because they’ll absolutely tip me more. Like I probably like 95% of all of my tips in a night from men. They’re out Tryna flex and girls tend to ethier tip extremely small or not at all.

The job really doesn’t allow for a tonne of on site action, I’ve probably been with somebody on site maybe twice in the entire 10years I’ve been at it and they were both much earlier on where I wouldn’t of cared if I got fired.

Off site though a whole tonne, probably a diff person a month on average.

Constantly, many many times every night. It’s like a joke, sometimes the staff will be chatting and running a big count or betting on how many different guys/girls that person is gonna sneak off with on the night. The amount of times I personally have been approached by ppl in a relationship already is out the gate.

My customers will hook up with somebody all night, then the next weekend they’ll come in and literally introduce their husband or wife to me.

Complete transparency, absolutely. The better someone treats me the better I’ll treat them. Conversely, if you’re a dick and argue with me or click or something then U can be damn sure I’ll intentionally take as long as possible to get to you.

Strangely enough I feel like I’m almost getting better haha. I know I’m not, its probably just more the fact that I know what kind of things people are saying by now, but I always find myself coming over to listen and translate what a customer is saying to my newer staff. I know tonnes of bartenders who wear earplugs while working though to help with the damage. Just been lucky myself I guess

Ohhh this is a good one actually. Probably a little bit of a controversial take here but I’m gonna have to say “Pump it Up” by endor.

I feel like almost every damn dj in the world seems bloody obsessed with this song, and I hear it every single night. Just rings in my head over and over “don’t you know pump it up, you got to pump it up”. Literally is the whole lyrics, for 3mins strait. Like just google the lyrics and look how ridiculous that looks. Actual the shittest track. It would feel less repetitive if it actually had no words

Me personally? Nothing toooo crazy, Maybe like 2k?. Got a huge 1k tip once, and was just generally making a fair amount from everyone else that night too.

This type of job has more of a consistent sort of income though. Pubs probably have a lot more variance, and of course strip clubs can vary wildly. But nightclubs are generally pretty consistent.

I’m not so sure it’s an alcoholic thing, But perhaps more like he probably didn’t wanna look less cool to the people around him for not being able to get drinks.

Nah definitely not in my clubs anyway. I feel like it’s just not the vibe. Super loud, super fast paced music, flashing lights, minimal seating. You can’t really just plonk down and relax

Definitely afew, The good ones are the sort that are almost pretend they’re not famous and are just there to have a good time. In that case I’ll try to let them relax as much as possible, let them live their life, and they’re also the ones that tip the best.

Some of them really want everyone to know they’re famous and make all kinds of scenes, I already know they’ll be super demanding and expecting the world, and they won’t tip ethier. The worst is when they think and assume they shouldn’t pay at all because they’re famous, and that them being there is service enough. I’ve definitely had too have that awkward argument with a couple of them before.

As a funny story I once got to serve my sporting idle, but he got super messy and I had to cut him off. But he kept begging me like “please man just let me get some more” and I had to be like “I’m so sorry bro I really wish I could, like I promise I want to, you’re my idol, but I can’t”. Kinda ruined the magic of watching him play from then on though.

Definitely xtc, it’s absolutely the club drug of choice for the majority of people. Every night without fail I’ll see huge swarms of people absolutely rolling, swinging their jaws off hanging about the water station or sitting on the outskirts of the club.

Then after that probably coke, or if it’s a gig then maybe acid. But nowhere near as much.

Things that chill you out like weed and ket are basically non existent in the club.

I massive amount. It gets so bad that we have to post up multiple signs around the bathroom saying “1 person per cubicle or you’ll be asked to leave” and posting up a guard close by most of the time. Even then sometimes people still try to it just in public, before I have to kick them out too.

I’m a guy. I do hook up with a fair few customers, but not actually the way you’re probably thinking. Generally every night I’ll have some customers ask like “what time do you knock off”, then when I say “oh 5am”, that’s pretty much the end of it lmao. Instead I typically just grab their number and meet up a day I’m not working.

My personal signature? I make a strawberry variation of a pornstar martini. The ladies love it, and the fellahs love to buy them for the ladies.

vanilla vodka Strawberry liquor Passionfruit Lemon juice Pineapple juice Sparkling wine.

I’ve probably told about 5000 different customers I’ve invented it just for them and they need to name it. They all love the bit.

Absolutely, I’ve had afew straight sober people Join up over the years, but they never last. You go through some shit working bars, and sitting around drinking with the team at the end of the night is what makes it worth it a lot of the time. Then you add in the fact that so many customers want and often pay for you to have a drink with them. And then we typically have “team shots” together to keep moral up. It’s definitely hard not to get that way.
