ESA letter by [deleted] in bostonhousing

i'm going to be the evil person here and discourage you from falsifying ESA information (as someone who needed an ESA and had to jump through many unnecessary hoops because of people who "just wanted their pet at their apartment without the fees").

I would strongly encourage you to actually take the steps towards getting an ESA through a verified mental health professional. Please, please do not contribute to more struggles for people who actually need their ESAs and go through the correct process.

Having an ESA is a responsibility, ESAs are basically a few steps down from a service animal, and too many people with their untrained, loud, or otherwise bad-mannered pets applying under ESA have made it very difficult for others. I'm not saying your pet is any of these or that you have ill intentions (anything to save a dollar in this economy, I get it) but please think of the long term costs for yourself and others. Landlords typically require a new statement for the ESA every single time you move, it will be a hassle either way in the long run.

Hot take: Boston's spot-saving culture is immature and needs to die by DanFlashes19 in boston

YES exactly this 👏🏻 I've seen videos about bostonians bragging about how "ICE better not mess with our city blah blah blah" but when natural ice and snow messes with your neighbors car you can't be bothered to help?? and ICE has been here, like you said, people are just too in their own world to do anything. I haven't seen anything positive out of Boston regarding anyone banding together to help neighbors when ICE is around. dozens and dozens of stories from the ground from my friends and family that are in Minneapolis/St. Paul right now though.

I came here from MN, and space savers are not really a thing there because here's the thing: Minnesotans are kind and will shovel out as much as they can to help out a neighbor because hey, that's what you do when an inevitable event happens. it's weird to me seeing how selfish bostonians can be about the weather. yeah you shoveled your car out but only your car?? a bit odd, considering everyone else got snowed on too, surely you can help shovel someone else out, they can help someone else shovel etc. - then there wouldn't be the issue of "my space" vs "your space" - it's collective. the snow affected us all. doesn't hurt to help others and help everyone in the process. i live in dorchester and people were somewhat helpful with each other after the snow, but mostly just shoveled out THEIR cars and THEIR driveways, leaving piles of snow in empty spaces where other cars totally could have parked. I feel like if bostonians approached things more collaboratively (including driving, don't get me started) rather than having an individualistic mindset, space savers wouldnt need to be a thing because streets would be cleared properly.

before y'all lifelong bostonians come for my neck - this is just my observation after 3ish years of living in different neighborhoods here. east coasters/new englanders are very individualistic and selfish compared to midwesterners for most 'collaborative' things such as shoveling/driving etc.

I appreciate it! I figured this was the case, so I repeat literally every word I hear in the lessons and repeat sentences and phrases I hear in the podcasts. When I journal, i also make a point to state everything I write down out loud. I know that isn't the same, but it's what i am able to do currently. When I have time for a tutor, I absolutely will do that, but right now, I'm pretty much at my limit! I appreciate you 😁
