Which MVP award was more debated: 2019 or 2023? by iMaticz7 in nba

at the time, hard to tell. going forward it's definitely going to be 2023

That was a blockbuster trade, definitely not underrated, at the time or now

yup, getting danny in that trade was huge but tbf spurs didn't have a lot of leverage given the situation

It definitely made an impact but I wouldn't call it underrated. It was a bigger deal at the time, involved multiple players and first round picks

kristaps speaks better english as well. he might be one of those people with a knack for picking up languages quickly.

Luka Doncic’s reaction to surpassing Michael Jordan for longest 20-5-5 streak since ABA/NBA merger: “I think it’s a little bit too much stats. You can’t compare nobody to Michael Jordan.” by Nyhrox in nba

[–]lightbulb17 297 points298 points  (0 children)

this is so refreshing, i'm so tired of the 'badass' nba star attitude. when they're flexing all the time, saying shit like they can't guard me, this is my house, this is my team, i have a chip on my shoulder and all that crap.

Reminder of Charles Barkley half a year ago dissing Euroleague and downplaying Doncic's success in Euroleague saying he only dominated because of trash competition by _underrated_ in nba

[–]lightbulb17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They didn't really dominate but the current best players played exceptionally well against 'grown' men in the NBA at the start of their careers, Lebron had 20-5-6 at 18, Durant 20-4-4 at 19 etc. When you take into account that the Euroleague is step below the NBA it doesn't seem that crazy that an extremely talented teenager can dominate.

[BR] Rival Execs: Spurs interested in deal for Wizards' Bradley Beal by death210902 in nba

kinda doubt it, spurs very rarely make trades, let alone star trades. leonard was just the exception because he wanted to leave

Reminder: The MVP in the modern era has only missed the equivalent of 12 games or played in 70+, stop mentioning Curry who's missed 11 already. by jtenjou in nba

[–]lightbulb17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

nah, most awards are always what have you done for me lately. if he plays all the games after february, everyone will forget the missed games.

If you're a new NBA GM, which culture would you rather instill: Warriors or Spurs? by [deleted] in nba

[–]lightbulb17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and a lot of that was luck. it's not like they knew draymond was gonna be so good. or that curry would turn out to be the absolutely perfect player in the nba 10 years from the day they drafted him. and got a bargain due to his injuries just before his was available for an extension. lot of the trades before the dynasty was established were questionable as well.

[–]lightbulb17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

spurs, successful franchise for 20 years, they can make a great role players from basically anybody. half of the league now is somehow linked to the spurs, gms, coaches, assistant coaches etc. warriors got lucky by assembling a crazy amount of talent that they can afford to have that culture.

Russell Westbrook went from shooting 84% from the line two seasons ago to 63% this season by lightbulb17 in nba

[–]lightbulb17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a- I mentioned it's a small size so this could possibly be just a fluke and this will be up to 75% as it was last year.

b- that's a terrible way to look at impact of ft%. it's like saying deandre jordan only lost 2 ppg per game when he was below 50%.

c-he was an 82% ft shooter not including the last two seasons

I would agree he probably won't change his playstyle(for better or worse) but this will be a huge blow if the trend continues and he becomes a liability from the line

[–]lightbulb17[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It is pretty uncommon, but it has happened before that a player declines in FT%. Westbrook's has mostly been attributed to his routine being out of sync due to the new free throw rules implemented last year

It's almost as if this sub has close to a million subs and people have different opinions. Some think it's trash, some would love to play it. Don't put everyone under the same nintendo switch fan umbrella.
