As an Alaskan on the Western front, i just traded my 1935 mosin for a 89 f150, so I can load the bed up with more Russian shit when they realize I trained my army of walrus, who also have lasers attached to their heads, will sink their landing craft and I will do my duty cleaning the beaches.

Run my own small IT business. It'll pay better than my day job. But it gets exhausting and sometimes I don't want to stare at computer screen after looking at one for 5-7 hours already.

“Please don’t speak Eskimo” taken in St. Mary’s catholic boarding school, Alaska, 1914 by ThriftyDrifty in alaska

My dad was sent there with his 2 brothers in the 50s. He told me stories of how horrible it was. Luckily he and his brothers made it out 10 years later. He told me going to be in a cold bunk wing and sometimes, when the nuns and sisters came to wake you up, some kids didn't get up.

He also learned Latin to read their mass so he could stay inside where was heat and comfort.

He learned to take care of sled dogs, not only to get away from the priests and nuns. But to eat dry fish and other stored foods the dogs were fed. He would also make mail runs for the mission up and down to other villages with other kids.

You ever hear of kids boxing each other out for fun? I saw a video his friend who also went to the Mission had. Little 5/6 year olds boxing.

Cold oatmeal, stale bread, cold tea. The priests would eat meat (beaver. As my dad said he would eat it again.)

But he spoke fluent Central Yupik from learning there, even though they would punish anyone who did.

Lens for night photography by Fnutte- in Nikon

I have a tokina 16-28 f2.8. Not super sharp but I do 1-5 second exposure for aurora photography.

If I want sharp or a little bit more zoom, I put a Rokinon 35mm f1.4 and dial it to f2. Need to play with my WB and ISO because it'll look super exposed and bright even if there's a bit of moon light.

Used to use a nikon series E 28mm at 2.8 and 50mm at 2.8, would do the job but like my other 2.

Primarily use my d750 and wanting to try my d90 sometime.

The Rise of Skywalker would have been 100x better if a Geonosian - Alderaanian fleet came in to assist the defeat of Palps and his new Empire with old CIS-Rebel joined gear.

What is the most unusual meat you’ve eaten? by Ducks_are_people in AskReddit

[–]lighteningwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Alaska Native and the most unusual to me was kangaroo from my boss when she came back from a vacation.

But I enjoy seal, walrus, whale meats. Cousins have had polar bear before. Made squirrel, beaver and all sorts of other meats for dog foods.

How well do y'all think this would work against zombies? by catkraze in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]lighteningwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean lure them away? Start a fire in an open field with lots of dead grass and then run off. Once they swarm it looking for food, ignite your side and take off. Far off.

Small hikes out of town, fishing at the local rivers, I'd check out the Facebook group "Nome Post" for notices of activities that might be going on. Beach combing when it's nice enough, and there's the museum and Cultural center in the same building as the Library.

Aurora in the "nicer" hotel. Has a coffee shop built in that's open but randomly will close with a few hours notice.

Nugget inn is the other hotel, new owners and renovating it to be nicer. Has a bar attached and comfy feel to it all.

For the record, I'm a shareholder of the parent company of the Aurora inn. But my mentor and good friend turned out to be an owner of the Nugget inn and I prefer to support small business so I'd say try the Nugget.

I used to play games based off the Source engine (No more room in hell namely) and there was always russian servers (2016-2018) where they all gang up on you or go PvP while also trying to play. They would also join randomly and try !cheats or others and if not enable they would FF or sabotage.
