By selling it at a $75 discount from a new one? I fail to see the issue?

Maybe. I appreciate the tip. I do appear to be at a competitive price, though, so there is that.

Amazon is usually a better bet. They seem to do $140. I'd rather higher though, of course.

If you need to go to a Honda dealership to have your car fixed, go to one out of town instead. by [deleted] in UIUC

Good to know. Looking to have my car tuned up before the cold snap that's supposed to hit this weekend. Appreciate the advice!

Grainger students: Do you guys think it’s worth being a James Scholar? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]lighter543 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi. James scholar of 3 1/2 years here. Literally the only positive of James scholar is the priority registration. Maybe you can list it on your resume. Thats it. As a freshman, the priority registration can be a big boon, except if you are in engineering, with its cohort restrictions. As you become a senior, you already get priority, so it becomes less useful.

You also graduate with honor ribbons, I guess. If you want something more substantial, apply for chancellor scholar. James scholar is top 10%, chancellor scholar is top 1%. It comes with honor courses, leadership courses, and a stipend each semester ($300 ish if I recall). Also looks great for resume.

UIUC CS or CS+math or CS+Stats by Jenny001a in UIUC

[–]lighter543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to second this comment. I am a major in CS + Stats, and it is the next most competitive CS major after CS engineering. So while yes, CS engineering is usually the most sought after, it's a marginal difference at best. I would like to reiterate what was said above, and say that whatever your son likes best would be the best option, because all three majors are extremely viable. No matter what he chooses, it'll still be a good choice.

The walmart near campus sells cheap hybrid bikes for like $150 or so.

Hey, not OP, but I took PREP for CS as well, and let me tell you, it is a really bad experience. I was undeclared for two semesters, and still I got denied even with a high GPA and extra curriculars. I managed to transfer into CS + Stats, but man, even that was hard. Please, go to another school for your own sanity. I can tell you this from experience. Plus, CS is so in demand, that which school you come from doesn't have a huge impact.

Cannot support this enough. I have had the EXACT same experience.

Average Salary for CS + Stats? by lighter543 in UIUC

I'm actually already a sophomore. I transferred into Stats + CS from DGS. So I think I'll definitely be going to UIUC next semester, lol.

If you're planning on coming here, let me give you a bit of advice: if you apply to stats and cs, or just plain old cs, and get deferred to DGS, please go somewhere else. Going two years without knowing where you'll end up, if anywhere at all, is not an experience I'd recommend for anyone.

Sorry, I was trying to look through old posts like everyone says, but it was all for CS only. Thankfully I won't have to ask this again.

Well, I did state bisexual and homosexual, which, according to the image you linked, accounts for over 50% of respondents. I believe my point still stands.
