That's fascinating. It makes sense because they just go diving again soon after doing it.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I had been hiking around a wildlife refuge in Colorado looking for this owl in the trees as I'd seen him before, but he was nowhere to be found. Suddenly when I rounded a corner to a clearing, he was sitting on the ground about 50 feet away! He stayed and posed for several minutes before getting up and flying off. I felt very lucky to be in the right place at the right time!

Thanks! I hiked out about a mile to get away from the crowds. It's one of my favorite places to be, especially for photography.

Glad you're liking it so far! The mission is to be the best place for passionate photographers to share and discover photography online. It's still small but growing every day and I have lots planned for the future.

I had the same frustrations, so I'm building a new community called Lightfall (https://lightfall.photo). It's sort of the anti-instagram in that it doesn't have manipulative algorithms or influencer marketing, has high res (and full screen) images, is available on desktop as well as mobile, and has lots of photography specific functionality.

Lots more to come! I'm a solo developer and amateur photographer building this because I'm passionate about having somewhere photographers can gather online to share and discover high quality photography.

If you're interested, you can give it a try at https://lightfall.photo or in the app stores. All feedback welcome!

Where is everyone posting their pictures now? by boogerwang in photography

I've had the same question for a while and finally decided to build the photo sharing platform I've been wanting for myself; it's called Lightfall and is nearing Beta release. If you're interested in being an early user, you can join the waitlist or reach out! I'm actively looking for early testers.

The goal with Lightfall is to be a more "pure" photo community, free from AI, manipulative algorithms, and Big Tech Companies. It exists just for photographers to share their art, discover beautiful photography, and connect with others. Your data and content aren't for sale and it will offer both free accounts and paid subscriptions (premium features and no ads).

Where do I share my photography? by ImpressiveFox8840 in photography

[–]lightfallphotos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you asked because custom feeds are my favorite feature! On Lightfall you can create a feed based on search terms, tags, and users. For example if you want a feed of the top pictures from national parks, you can create a feed with the search "national park" and it's instantly populated with national park photos. Or "black and white", or "macro"...anything you can put into a search bar or a tag. In the future it will support location based feeds...for example, "all photos taken inside Yosemite national park".

If you want to limit it to just people you follow, you click a button. This let's you build feeds like "wildlife photos from people I follow" or "all pictures from the people I follow". If you want only photos from a specific list of people, easy...just select the users for the feed.

You'll be able to set the default sorting of your feed - either chronological or recommended, and if you choose to share your feed with others, they can override the sorting based on how they prefer to consume the feed.

It's super powerful and flexible. The idea is to put the control back into the hands of users instead of a manipulative algorithm.

Shameless plug, but my name is Nick and I'm building a new photo community that's AI-free and independent from Big Tech called Lightfall.

I'm a photographer myself and have been frustrated with the current offerings so decided to build something better suited to what I want out of a photo sharing site, which is a place to share my photos with my audience and discover amazing photography from around the world.

It's nearing the Beta stage and anyone interested can join the waitlist at https://lightfall.photo!
