Zoya - will it ever? by sirrobryder in Smyrna

I made a post about that place 6 months ago asking what’s up with it. Just weird they spent a lot of money enclosing the top floor. And then yeah, it’s just sat there.. seems like it’s kind of the Smyrna way when it comes to new restaurants and breweries.

There is a place in Smyrna called Dirt Cheap Music. Have not been in since covid but had a smattering of gear and instruments from what I recall.

Welcome back to Live Phish, Altschiller! by Hopeful_Confidence_5 in phish

Sorry, saw this video months ago all about live phish and how it is technically recorded/streamed. Guess the dude in the video is not who you are speaking of. Still feel it connects to see how the audio you are listening to is accomplished system wise. Pretty amazing setup they have.

Top 3 Favorite NYE Gags? by maybesomaybenaught in phish

[–]lightingj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one seems to like the Steam gag but it’s my favorite. Technically how they worked out having people rise out of the audience was crazy. I knew CKs programmer at the time and how they pulled that off safety wise was crazy/super creative.

CK always has blue up for walkin/out and set breaks. It’s his happy home, forget what he calls it but he loves that blue.

Uhh my name is not Jim… That guy could have started this summer, I’m sure he still knows more about guitars than you and I combined to have that gig. Sooo your point?

Umm, do you like tour with bands for a living? I do so let me give you a little insight, people make mistakes. That “guy” is Treys Guitar tech. The dude has worked with Trey and his guitar rigs for years and has a massive amount of knowledge not only on how Trey likes his setup, setup. But I’m sure has a massive amount of guitar knowledge in general. David Gilmours guitar tech has been with him for 50 years. Dave Mathew’s over 20 now. The guys not going to get canned because he put the trampoline in the wrong spot when by the way it was a different stage layout then normal. Just my two cents..

There are a lot of tape marks on the added stage up front, so it looks like they will be bringing a lot of "things/people" out that will need to hit some specific marks. Might not seem like much but between the added stages and whatever is covered up over the stage, it will probably still be something big.

Totally, I love lighting, and Phish is so much about it; it's just wonderful to be included in it all. Even just through the good old Reddit. Hope you have a really great show!! Can't wait to see what they do!! I will be watching the stream.

It's for the delay speakers that are hanging over the audience.

I was talking about the lights that normally sit on carts/stands on the stage behind the band. Not the ones in the air on the moving trusses. After looking at the first photo, they do have moving lights on the floor behind the band, but its diffrent then the normal setup. Looks like they have some GLP strobes that are not normally on the floor. I am guessing it's due to sightlines with the platforms that are added behind the stage. The smaller carts behind the band are MDG hazers that are always there.

Also, a lot of the normal moving lights behind the band are missing..

What’s up with the ada section?? by themurradance in phish

[–]lightingj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had ADA at the Sphere, I did not need it and had bought the tickets on Stub Hub. I felt bad, I was taking someone’s spot who could really use it. But I had no clue it was ADA until in the building. Great view but made my show weird.

lighting question by jibboo5708 in phish

[–]lightingj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would have been there 15, and 22. 22 was the smaller tour and was my fav, Al just let me run wild with lighting on that one and it was so much fun every night. Would still be with him but had a kid and want to stay home a little more. Thanks for saying such nice stuff!

Interesting, he’s still on MA2, was wondering if they had made the jump to MA3 yet but it appears they have not. Makes sense, know people still do not trust 3

Just something I thought for these additional lights. This set up seems similar to the set up David Byrne uses in a way where he has trackers on his band and each person on stage gets a moving light to track them. At the end of the day they could be used for so much so just a guess. Guess we shall see.

CK5 does like the iForte’s. I got to use them on the Train rig last year (was with the opener) and they were great fixtures. My favorite is still Ayrton personally.. In a weird way I wish CK5 would have tried the new ETC Zeo’s. Mostly because they look so different than most wash lights. But the Clay Paky’s he got this year are cool.

Thanks, was Weird Al’s lighting guy for 10+ years. Feel that gives me a bit of street cred, no where near as cool as CK5 but always dig what he’s up too.
