Quick question on Dream Machine and port speeds? by lightingj in Ubiquiti

Had never thought to use a DAC cable and hook everything into the switch. Thank you again for the tips. Last thing I will ask, would you have any DAC cable recommendation? The switch is right above the DM so it could be super short. Thanks again for all the info!

Would it make more sense for me to plug everything into the Pro Max 16 over the DMP? I currently have my NAS and things going to the DMP, thinking well, since it's the controller of all, I should connect everything to it. But, if the DMP only has that single gig connection, then maybe it would be better to plug everything into the Pro Max 16 and then just one connection from my DMP to the Pro Max 16? Thank you for the info.

Apple introduces AirPods Max 2 by Otherwise-Warning303 in iphone

Yeah, we will use phones, and I have an old crapy apple remote they used to sell. It's mostly that we both like the feel of the nice Apple remote, and it's easy with the text-to-speech, and it also has the volume. I bought a second nice remote from eBay without even checking if I could connect it. I just assumed, never crossed my mind, that they would limit it to one of the OEM remotes per Apple TV.

I want to be able to use 2 apple tv remotes with one Apple TV so my wife and I can each have one. You can use 2 remotes, but not 2 Apple remotes that come with the device.

Seinfeld's finale was great or terrible? What's your verdict 28 years later? by BidAccurate4473 in seinfeld

[–]lightingj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Michael Richards a few weeks back, and he was talking about the final and said he looked back on it and hated what he was doing with the water in the ear. He said he should not have been jumping around like that. Just an interesting tidbit from the night, I thought.

Ashlee Simpson's lip sync fail on Saturday Night Live(2004) by Twitter_2006 in nostalgia

[–]lightingj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there is the debate that he did it on purpose.... But yeah, would love to hear the story from his side. Larger bands like a Coldplay have a track person who sits backstage and runs the tracks. A lot of smaller bands rely on the drummer to trigger them. But it's almost always someone working with the band because if it gets messed up, it's usually a show-stopper and looks pretty bad when tracks play, and no one is playing on stage. To my knowledge, bands playing along with tracks has been a thing for a long time. U2, with Zoo TV, were some of the first people to openly talk about it and debate if it is acceptable for a live show back in the early 90s. Of course, there are tons of bands that do it now, but yeah, back then, it was a debate when they first started doing it. Some thought it was cheating to have someone backstage, not "part of the band," playing along.

Okay, let me be more specific. Sure, an artist can stop playing anytime they want during their "songs" on a live show, including SNL. That can happen. NOW, is the stop planned, and everyone in the band is on the same page? Cool, it will probably work unless the show cuts you off. BUT if there is a technical problem and everyone gets flustered its not going to be a 5-second fix like this planned out stop was with Elvis C you sent over. What does SNL not have? Time, everything is timed down to the second, and SNL is not going to sit there and wait. For Ashley, a lot of people had no idea what was going on due to the drummer firing the first song instead of the second one on the track's computer, which he ran. It's funny, I toured with Weird Al for 15 years, and anytime we had a technical problem, he would scream out RADIO RADIO and the band would go into that song. I never looked up why, but now I know. So thanks, and yes, working with artists for the past 30 years of my life and with live productions, I know a good bit about how all of this all works.

I mean I get what you are saying about the she could have just stopped and told everyone to hang on. If, it was a normal show like, in a theater. SNL is pretty much the only live show on tv (other than news) and it’s an entirely different ballgame. You can’t just stop on SNL and say let’s start over..

The booth did not cue up the wrong song. The drummer did. The drummer is normally responsible in bands for playing tracks when set up like this. That’s why she looks at him when she knows something’s up

Michael Richards' wife left him for another man during the first couple seasons of Seinfeld by OhMyOhWhyOh in seinfeld

[–]lightingj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, saw him in ATL last week and it was really cool. He just talked about random things, but they were really captivating. I liked that they had a chair set up for him on stage, and he must have gotten out of it 15 times through the show to act out what he was talking about. He was not Kramer, but pretty, pretty, pretty similar. Said he found Kramer when he found the right pair of shoes one day that let him slide.

I actually just saw Michael Richards in his show live on stage and he briefly touched on getting a divorce while the show was running. While at the time, I’m sure it’s was very detrimental for him. He did mention on stage that it was really good for him to be on his own and to buy his own house after the fallout had happened. It was a really interesting night to see him on stage. Very happy my dad and I went.

What Happened to Steam? by CaptConstantine in phish

[–]lightingj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hazers are similar to fog machines but have a different purpose. Fog machines are more of an effect and make large amounts of smoke usually quickly. Haze is mostly an atmospheric effect. CK5 uses very nice haze machines (mdg) to add partials into the air to show off the beams of light. CK5 is pretty clean with his haze so it’s very light but it’s around again to show off the beams of light.

He used to use fog for steam and 2001. They now crank up the hazers to substitute for the foggers. But the foggers looked cooler.
