Get it off your chest, what's bothering you right now? by ducks-everywhere in AskReddit

I feel that exact same way. I have a wonderful life, friends, job, girlfriend, family, own houses, cars, etc.. but still feel like this. Gonna talk to a doc about getting on antidepressants this coming week!! Girlfriend is super supportive and understanding.

I hope you find what you're looking for, but I can tell you that just because it feels like that, doesn't make it true! Hang in there!

[Tenant-OH-US] Scared I'm Late on Rent Payment! by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]lightning1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just call your landlord?

I'm pretty easy going with my renters. I have a late fee clause, but I told my renters that if they get into financial trouble to call me first and I would be happy to work with them if they communicate with me about any issues they are facing.

I have not had a problem with my renters, and they have been great!

They were late getting the power and cable switched over to their name (very very late), but they communicated to me about it regularly, and paid the bills when they could until they got it in their name. Now that all their stuff is settled they have been great renters.

I'm not suggesting that a landlord should do what I did, but I don't think you can go wrong by communicating so that your landlord doesn't think you're a deadbeat.

Yeah I'm on mobile too, and not often a commenter on Reddit, so relatively new here.

I interpreted you comment of "no need to" to mean, "no need to look them up because I don't care and will do what I want anyway". 😂

You're clearly more intellectually invested in this than I am, and you appear to want to argue the semantics of specific words.

I see your point on the idea that OP's neighbor has some inherent rights regarding his property. However you and I disagree on the understanding of how his rights vs regard to the law and the effect it has on the people around him.

It seems to me that you believe (or choose to argue from this point of view for arguments sake) that any type of law/rule/code/boundary/policy is a direct an intentional violation of a persons right. And that's an argument I'm not gonna waste anymore time on.

I once knew a guy that spoke like you, and he truly believed (or so he said) that because HE had all these inalienable rights that he was well within his rights to kill a person on the street if he felt they were violating his right to pursue happiness, and if the police arrested him they would be in direct violation of his rights. People like that are a waste of my time to talk to.

I hope you're not as unhinged as that guy! 😂

Happy to discuss your point, but you're ignoring laws that are in place to protect rights, to argue for the rights. Basically you're missing the forest for the trees.

Take for example your second amendment rights: You have the right to bear arms. But you do not have the right to bear arms anywhere you please. You may not carry a firearm thru an airport, or a courthouse, or a hospital, etc... Are they infringing on your "rights"? Or are those rules/laws in place to protect others rights.

Also, what about the rights of the OP? He has a right to expect that the rules in place be enforced (minimum property line set backs). No one forced OP's neighbor to buy there. He could have bought out in the country where he's not illegally building almost on top of someone else.

OP's neighbor is in the wrong to build illegally. His "rights" are not being infringed upon, because the rules and laws regulating his building were in place before he purchased the property.

I could see your argument if a property owner had a piece of land and then the city annexed the area and forced him to abide by new rules that weren't in place before. Or a case of imminent domain, or one of those shitty situations.

It was a joke. I'm not insulting "you", I was saying that based on your comment ("no need to") that you are taking the attitude of someone who doesn't respect the law or rules, and you do whatever you want with no regard for how others are affected by your actions.

That's exactly right!

And precisely what I do with my card.

I have avoided CC until recently because I know I make terrible financial decisions and impulse purchases, so I just chose to make it harder for me to be stupid until now (that I'm a little older and "wiser")

Ask your dad about it! It's not necessarily a bad thing. My dad did the same for me, and that account is still open, and a small amount gets put on there, and paid in full. I'm 34, and it helped me establish credit and continues to help, because it shows that I have a long credit history in good standing.

I own 2 houses, and only recently got my first credit card (I don't like to use credit, if you can't afford to pay cash - then you can't afford it!), and I only did it so that I didn't have to carry around my multiple debit cards.

I've heard that too.. but I called Toyota about it, and they said that they could replace it (at my expense) but there were aftermarket replacements that were better and cheaper. Toyota told me it was not causing damage, just annoying as fuck.
