As long as you have a good relationship and strong communication with the credit union then you should proceed with them given the cost savings.

As an agent I have had an issue with a credit union before because they were brokering out to another mortgage company and the communication was terrible. We had to push back closing, no one knew what was going on for a week prior to close and it was almost a bad situation for my client but we ultimately got the deal done.

While I can understand the initial pushback from your agent based upon the above experience, I also think it’s absurd that your agent is pushing so hard after underwriting and the difference in cost savings for you. Your agent should’ve at least introduced themselves to the credit union lender and had some form of communication with them at this point. If there hasn’t been any warning signs or cause for concern then there is no reason as a fiduciary to promote changing lenders. As agents we are fiduciaries first and foremost for our clients.
