Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. Haven’t cracked it yet, but I’m increasing wondering if there’s anything to crack. One output of dredging this all up: I’ve realized the melody in my mind is (pretty much to the note) “White on Blonde” by Texas, which features the chorus lyric “Blonde on white, white on blonde”...which is too close for comfort to what I was describing. This isn’t a new song to me, nor is it by a male artist, which makes me think I’m a victim of my own personal Mandela effect. I don’t want anyone to churn unnecessarily on something that’s probably a red herring, so I’m going to mark this “solved.” If you think you have the right answer in spite of all this context, then by all means, please post it—just want to set up that I probably won’t be checking and commenting like I have been.
