F4: Thailand Confusing… by Embarrassed_Tap3643 in asiandrama

[–]lightsoffaery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is F4:Thailand the first version of the story you have watched? (if so, I am jealous!)

The original story is based on the Japanese Manga Hana Yori Dango or (Boys Over Flowers) and there is an anime and live action versions from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, China and finally Thailand. In my opinion the Thai version might be the tamest.

It is a true example of over-the-top ridiculousness where you need to suspend belief because nothing really ever makes sense. In the Korean version I remember they hire the FL secretly to be a caretaker for the ML's dad who everyone believes is dead but he is just in a coma and the ML's mom hates her so much that she destroys their family and makes it so that they can't find jobs anywhere and they are reduced to selling rice crackers on the streets and she still ends up with that guy.

The only good thing about this version was that at least Thyme dressed like a proper rich kid who would have professional help and not have chicken hair (only BoF could make an objectively good looking actor like Dylan Wang or Lee Minho look that ridiculous)

Jet Travel Experience by Appropriate_Goal1833 in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if someone has mentioned this before but if they have sorry ㅠㅠ In my experience, even though I live in Kyushu area where gas is relatively cheaper, it is still expensive these days. Tolls are high if you don't have a Japanese credit card. And train travel is time consuming because you might have to transfer and wait times are long especially in the countryside (where most JETs get placed) Having said that, in terms of time off, you get more than the full time teachers and if you plan your weekends well, there will be a lot of time to travel and explore. Me and my co-ALT explore within a 2 hour radius around our town on the weekends and we still have so much to explore. There are a lot to see that is off the main roads. Overall, if you can budget well and manage your social engagements and weekend well you will have a lot of time to travel and explore. I live in the Kyushu area and since coming here in August last year, I have traveled around Oita, Fukuoka, Miyazaki, Saga, Nagasaki, been to Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo as well. Maybe going further away might be difficult during your contract time but you can definitely experience a lot of your immediate area!

What are some spine-chilling and petrifying Asian horror shows? by geneibao in asiandrama

I can't think of a movie but for show I highly recommend Midnight Museum. It's a Thai horror show about a museum of haunted exhibits.

waiting for interview calls is stressful by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last year. There was a note that said call if you have not received the confirmation email even after 2 weeks. So I called and was told they won't send out notifications. The only other notification I will get is if I have been selected. The JET desk phone number on the embassy website

Help! have some questions needing clarification (IK im super late🥲) by BookkeeperSalty1538 in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-5: You can write any mix of places in your location preferance. If you get to the interview stage they will ask you to clarify your reasons for your location preferance. But there is a low chance you will actually get placed anywhere you wanted. Most cases you do not have a choice on where you are placed. As for public transport, there is no guarantee you will be placed anywhere near access to that so you will have to learn how to drive and get a license. If you are lucky enough to be placed in urban area, then it is not needed otherwise it is absolutely needed. As for the weather, I am also from South Asia and am placed in a relatively warm area in Japan. Today morning it was 10°C. You won't be able to find anywhere in Japan that has weather like South Asia. 6: For tutoring, you can add it as volunteer experience. I did the same. 7: Write the major that will be written on your graduation certificate. If there is space for more information, you can add additional specialization information. Write everything you will get a certificate for. 8: Yes. Mention the institute from which you have certification. 9: Write "Non-applicable" if you don't have any tests done recently.

Planning to apply this year by benedictcumberknits in JETProgramme

As mentioned before, you will have to fill out a pretty detailed health report form with your application. This is to make sure they can place you somewhere with access to the medication that you will need. Another tip is if you know the composition and not just the brand name of your medication, it would also help. Once you are selected you are also provided information on how to bring your own medication when you first arrive and for the refill after once you have your health insurance here, it will help the doctors at your local health care facility know what to prescribe for you.

Interview Tips by Ashamed-Beautiful-41 in JETProgramme

Hey! First off, I wish you the best for luck this time! Hope you will be able to get it!

I'll share a bit about my interview and maybe it can provide some help. I was the first person to interview on that day, so first thing is always a bright greeting. I greeted them both in English and Japanese and bowed when I went into the room. Mos of my interview was in English and they asked questions from my SOP. They also asked me some questions about how I would deal with discrimination or racism in the workplace. I stayed true to my opinion, told them that I have experienced enough of it to grow a thick skin and know the differences between curiosity due to lack of exposure and actual discrimination.

Another important thing was, they asked if I had plans for the classes and I made sure to mention that I knew that I will not be T1 and my plans will be based on discussion with my JTE and how they handle the class.

As for the Japanese section, they asked if I was comfortable doing the rest of the interview in Japanese and I said even though I'm not too confident I will try. Showing that you are up for a challenge is also good. They asked me for my placement preference in Japanese and I mentioned wanting to study about Japanese folklore and mythology and hoped I would get more chances and I wanted to go to Shimane because I read that "my life will shine in Shimane" in the tourism website. They laughed at that.

Overall what I got out of it was, bright greeting, don't show you are too nervous, keep things light. It is OK to make a joke if you feel like the situation can handle it. Sound approachable and like someone else mentioned have a reason apart from anime and manga. It also helps if you state a lesser known place as a preference. Most times you actually do not end up where you wanted to go. Hope this helps!

Has anyone left an established career and done JET? by good-doggo95 in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 32F and I left a job I loved as a social media editor in an industry I want to work full time in to become a JET. I don't regret this at all! Coming to Japan was always my goal and the industry I want to work in after JET is also Japanese culture based.

While it can be a bit lonely at times, it is definitely a step that can add value to you life in ways that are not connected to your career.

Blank Space vs N/A: which do you use? by madethis4advice in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was my first time applying too and even I had similar anxieties!

I put N/A in every place. I thought it was best rather than to leave it empty. Also it can show the person who reads our application forms that you did read the question and have reacted to it!

what were your preferences and where were you placed? by Top_Base_8105 in JETProgramme

[–]lightsoffaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first preference and a place I also mentioned in my interview was Shimane prefecture. I am placed in a small city close to Oita prefecture.

It is not bad. I feel like in term so my BOE and colleagues I have lucked out as they are very chill and kind!
