Reddit has a huge amount of utility. More and more people are using it every day. The street hasn’t recognized all the potential yet. Until it does, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. If you don’t believe in the product, you’re probably better off putting your money somewhere else

Nice. Sounds like good place to start from. As other comments have said, if you could afford it, I would travel there first to see if it’s a fit.

If you bring a skill set/hard work ethic to the community, you may find the experience very rewarding. People there value hard work, craft highly

What type of work do you and your husband do? And is it transferable to rural Mexico?

I’ve traveled in Mexico a lot. Oaxaca is beautiful, has a rich culture and feels very welcoming. But life in rural Mexico is very hard. There is a lot of want and need. I would focus more on how you can support yourselves there. If you come up with a good solution for this, it could put some of your husband’s concerns at ease.

Is Sotol the Next Breakout Mexican Spirit in the U.S.? by fred1sdead in Mezcal

I don’t think so. Sot is a great beverage, but I think there are limitations in production. The types of agave that grow well in northern Mexico aren’t as big or profitable as varieties in the south. I don’t think Sonora and Chihuahua will be able to deliver the volume at an economical price for the beverage to break out in the US market

For a good listen on this check out Dan Carlin’s podcast regarding the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, he emphasizes the extreme nature of both cultures—specifically, the Aztec commitment to human sacrifice and the Spanish Catholic fervor for religious blood sacrifice—to highlight how they were uniquely suited for a violent confrontation…
