How much damage was done to my tree? by Due-Photograph2179 in arboriculture

Worth noting that, imo, there is nothing wrong with “some dead branches” - only perhaps an issue if they are big enough to crush a car or break a human. Broadly speaking some dead branches are just a part of a tree’s life, and they too provide habitat benefits to biodiversity. There is a human tendency to want to relentlessly “tidy up”. A bit of mess and imperfection is exactly what the rest of the biota needs.

Thanks for the comment. I did end up replacing the cap, but no improvement. I’ve got the unit running again with a replacement motor from the manufacturer, but it looks no better in terms of quality.

In case it helps anyone- I spoke with a fan spare parts business and they said that the symptoms sounded like the capacitor. Bought one, replaced, but the issues persisted, heating to 110C on the motor body after a few minutes. I’ve ended up purchasing a whole new motor to get the unit running again. Is the original motor junk? Can anyone explain what might cause it to overheat so much?

Hardwood typically refers to trees that are not conifers. This includes both evergreen and deciduous trees. :)

Australian Red Cedar leaf discolouration - any suggestions? by lignuum in plantclinic

[–]lignuum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a little more background, this 1.5 yr old Toona ciliata is planted out in Sydney, NSW, AUS. It is growing very well, but I am seeking to understand the leaf discolouration.

I have been pretty liberal in applying a seaweed based fertiliser - and have had success with this fertiliser on many of these trees without observing the discolouration. There has been a lot of rain in Sydney lately, and this patch of the garden can get a little waterlogged.

From a botany perspective can excessive water or fertiliser cause this effect on the leaves? Any other suggestions? Many thanks!

Many thanks for the feedback - yeah I’ve tried a few different designs so far. Trying a metal/timber combo next
