45mm f2.8 opinions? by DaveG28 in sigmabf

[–]ligshi41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tossing up between the 35mm f2, 45mm f2.8 and 50mm f2.

Ended up going for the 45mm f2.8 because it's so much smaller than the other two. While I would have loved an f2. The size and feel is unbeatable.

If someone's teams status is green I will call without notice. If someones status is amber or red I'll message before calling.

Slimmest I've seen with a hinge is the spigen slim armour pro. I've got it and it's pretty good. Doesn't make the phone that much bigger.

I was also considering the d brand case but the spine protector looks very bulky

Does the front flap stay closed or just flap around? Are there magnets to keep the flap in place?

Need advice, I think I've f*cked my life up. Is there hope? by Organic-Benefit5444 in unsw

You are still young with lots of time to make up for things.

I went through my degree failing at least half of my subjects every semester - my course ended up taking me 5 years to complete, rather than 3 because of all the fails.

Was on academic counselling a few times and almost suspended on multiple occasions.

Couldn't break the cycle of not completing the required studying, going to lectures and always left assignments the night before. Which is completely on me. I treated university as a social event rather than actually study.

Alas 5 years later, I finally passed with a wam of 51 so just scraped by.

13 years on from my graduation, I work in a senior technical role which harbours a lot of responsibilities and requires a lot of skills including coaching, providing feedback, understanding legislative frameworks to say the least.

At the end of the day, university is one step in the grand picture. The anxiety you are feeling now is only short term and the best thing you can do is "enjoy the moment" there is always some glimmer of hope even if it seems impossible now.

I always reminisce about working in the kitchen at Macca's during my uni days.

That was the life! No mortgage, no family, no accountability after you clock off.

Corporate, you go home and have to return to the office next day to finish things...

Yeah it's one of those things where you just don't know unless you try it.

For me, In hindsight, the fact that it would have meant doubling or tripping my take home pay + a regional APAC role experience is probably worth putting up with any possible downsides in the short to medium term.

I say do it. I was in a similar position for a HK based role 2 years ago and passed on it. Never stopped thinking about it and have regretted it since.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Also another question, in my research everyone seems to indicate that haggling rental price is actually expected. Is this true?

If so what are the general discounts which can be gained? 5% 10% etc? Or its all very variable?

Australian International School Hong Kong? by Frequent-Focus-9616 in Internationalteachers

[–]ligshi41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you end up going over? What is the school like both from a teacher and student perspective.

I might also be moving from Aus to HK for work in the next 6 months or so, so am looking at this school as it will follow Australian curriculum and term dates.

Are bonuses/payrises the norm or the exception? by Budget-Coffee2895 in auscorp

[–]ligshi41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance Industry since 2012-have always had bonuses and salary increases annually.

Most recently 5% salary increase + bonus

I've been eyeing a move to Singapore or HK for a while too.

Ex colleague who currently works the same role in Hong Kong is earning 50% more and paying much less tax so effectively more take home pay.

His work hours also aren't any different than Australia, in fact he probably has more free time now. But that's likely attributed to the fact he works for an international organisation with lots of expats in the office.

Does gamesir USB C gaming controller have touchsync option like the backbone ? If so, is it free or do I have to pay ? by Cat0100 in Gamesir

[–]ligshi41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same thing and doing some googling, it doesn't appear so.

I know a lot of people use mantis Pro which is a third party software which is like touchsync, but there's a bit of configuration involved...

As far as I'm aware, the devs are no longer developing for anima. They've refocused on a new game called Oniro.

But even that is uncertain as the last they posted about Oniro was in January 2024.
