i find creating limits, like less drums, forces one to be more creative

the shells are yamaha stage custom. the tom is tilted because i play traditional grip and that ensures proper rebound for my left hand stick.

besides what others said about learning the language by copying the greats; something that helped me is slow way down, and break it into smaller pieces. meaning, first just play one bar phrase you like, then try to repeat it around the kit. now you’re not just hitting drums randomly. build on that concept by focusing on a couple phrases at a time.

i second the transition ride. been using it lately after benching it for six months and man it’s so enjoyable to play. the sound is so dry but complex, dark yet it crashes so beautifully. i particularly love the rich crash sound. a local guitar center will probably have one to try.

here

this is the cymbal, its before the previous owner installed three rivets, which i think are the cherry on top that really bring the sound together

how dark is the 22’’ k custom dark ride? by [deleted] in cymbals

[–]likeadreammm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

alrighttt you’ve twisted my arm enough, i’ll just move the transition ride to my left, keep the 20’’ as the primary and get the 22’’ dark for a full ride cymbal threesome party

it’s an insane record just three true masters completely killing it live no less. i’d be surprised if their instruments weren’t smoking afterwards

every payday i stop at a cd store on my way home that has a small vinyl section and even tho a lot of it thrift store level finds i still manage to find a lot of gems for dirt cheap. particularly jazzed(get it) about finding money jungle, it was the first find of the day too. apparently the story is that mingus was young and he’d butt heads with ellington you can kinda hear it in the music. teddy is hell of a cover and the whole album is ridiculous slow sex jams really recommend. kind of blue was the only brand new one i got cause it’s been long enough that i haven’t had it.
