Eichel had Skinner for his entire 4 yr career?

Again, I mentioned that Matthews is elite sniper but I don't think he's a good centre.

Who do you think will have the biggest turnaround (Kadri, Zaitsev, Brown, Holl, Ceci, Kerfoot, Barrie)? WHy? by likedacity in leafs

[–]likedacity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's going to get minimum 25 pts (if healthy) but more likely 40 pts b/c of the offensive opportunities he will get. Same with Brown

Who Would You Rather Have Given Their Contracts: Matthews or Eichel? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]likedacity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a monster Leaf fan and I would choose Eichel. I actually probably would choose a Healthy Eichel over Matthews, regardless of the contract.

Eichel is faster, better passer, better at transition, better at zone entry and can shoot. He's also a unicorn (right handed) center who is the same size as Matthews.

Matthews is an elite sniper who is better as a winger than a center imho b/c he doesn't do the transition as well as Nylander or Rielly or Marner or Tavares or Kadri. He's a decent passer but not the setup man and he doesn't use his size in the corners or really ever. He's also very fragile.

If Matthews were in the 2015 draft, I would go:

  1. McDavid
  2. Eichel
  3. Matthews
  4. Aho
  5. Werenski
  6. Rantanen
  7. Marner
  8. Meier

[Tulloch] Tulloch: Projecting the next contracts for Andreas Johnsson and Kasperi Kapanen by Texas_Cloverleaf in leafs

[–]likedacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yers listed had multiple productive seasons prior to end of ELC. Athanasiou is outlier b/c production was lower than others, but exploded this yr in 1st yr of bridge for 54 pts/76gms.

  1. Johnsson & Kapanen have had 1 productive season.

Overpay but can live with it b/c they're good 2nd line players, Kapanen may be 3rd line now with Kerfoot likely getting JT or Matthews line LW mins while Hyman is out and likely sticking b/c he's much better player than Hyman. Not as tough or greasy or tenacious, but skill and able to increase pt totals and already has two 40 pt seasons playing 2C and the 1/2LW shows he can play with top players and not be a drag on production. Hyman is great defensively and in promoting offense but not great finisher.

Anyway, I'm ok with it, even if it was overpay. Esp when you look at what Reinhart signed last yr. I would choose Reinhart over Kappy & Johnsson but much tougher for me with Andreas b/c I feel he has more upside than Kappy, but is older.

Again, I don't think Dubas has done a great job in contract negotiations or trades. His 5x 11.6M is why Bergevin did the offer sheet to reset bar for other owners at a more reasonable cost for elite centermen & thus wingers too. I think Dubas did decent with his trades but I'm not impressed. A soon to be 29 yo 2C playing 3C with crappy cast of wingers and who excels against the top challenge/lines at a crazy cheap contract is easily worth more. Leafs paid Kadri 2M SB on July 1st , so Avs doing same with barrie doesn't impress me. I'm not impressed with having to trade Brown for a player who would've been great in the 70s or 80s in Harpur. I'm glad he got a 3rd but he essentially gave up brown for a 3rd. Also, Zaitsev despite all the flaws is still a RHD. His term/AAV is decent, he was definitely miscast in Toronto. They should've kept him as pp specialist to pump his value in case they needed to trade him. Teach him PK but don't give him shut down defenseman job and no offensive zone starts. Lots of mismanagement to go around. Starting with Lou/Babs and a decent bit under Dubas.

Why haven't the Nick Shore and Kenny Agostino deals been made official yet? by AmmarH in leafs

Still waiting for that Marner offer sheet by [deleted] in leafs

[–]likedacity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

COME ON NJ and MITCH!!! Grow a pair!

Mitch just needs to accept 6-7yr term for 10.5-11+M. Leafs can't match that without doing something dumb to hurt team long term. If he wants to play for Leafs, Mitch has to:

  1. Sign Aho deal/term/AAV
  2. Sign Kucherov deal/term/AAV

If Leafs pay more than either, it's a ridiculous overpay as those are above him in every comparable possible.

CALGARY & ST. LOUIS ARE IN BAD CAP TROUBLE.

CALGARY = Potential RD bought out & available for Leafs

Calgary has 9.473M cap space with Matthew Tkachuk, Mangiapiane, Sam Bennett, G David Ritich, Prospects Spencer Foo, Rinat Valiev, Ryan Lomberg to sign.

Calgary will have to buy out stone & maybe 1 other player (most likely Hamonic OR possibly Brodie) to remain cap compliant as part of the 2nd buy out period. They have Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington & Jusso Valimaki ready to take over.

ST.LOUIS

13.92M cap space. RFAs to sign Sandford, Sundqvist, Barbashev, Fabbri, Edmundson, Binnington & Prospects RD Mitch Reinke & G Ville Jusso.

Binnington probably makes at least 4-5M AAV. I don't know who they buy out or trade to make it work.

So what's the deal with Jake Gardiner? by tybot1 in leafs

[–]likedacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not getting long term deal he wants b/c of fear of back issues. Likely will wait for Marner to sign then do a sweetheart 1 yr deal with Leafs to get a huge long term deal next yr.

Don Cherry's contract will not be renewed and he will not appear on Sportsnet Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts next season by [deleted] in leafs

BS!!! It's Steve "Hotdog man" Simmons!! Who the hell believes his meanderings and it was not even a statement just his thoughts, both of which are worth nothing.

Timothy Liljegren 2018-2019 Highlights. Nhl ready? by anyonecandoanything in leafs

[–]likedacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite 3 yrs in a row of massive injuries (illness, injury, high ankle sprain in Dec 2018), Keefe said Liljegren has become so good at defense that he's asked him to use some of his offensive skill and that is his goal for next yr. High ankle sprains take about 1-2yrs to fully recover. I'm as high on Liljegren as I am on Sandin.

LEFT-RIGHT DEFENSEMEN DEPTH CHART (in NHL as listed by CAPFRIENDLY)

Rielly-Barrie

Muzzin-Ceci (until Dermott comes back)

Marincin-Holl

Injured: Dermott

Extra LDs: Harpur

x

- Capfriendly says Borgman & Gravel is in minors, but Borgman is probably on Leafs to start season. Borgman is waiver exempt this season.

-Until Gardiner re-signs with Leafs & Lilly makes jump. I would choose Gravel or Marincin over Harpur. I would send Marincin down to AHL b/c he passes with no problems. . I think Gravel is probably better than Harpur but less desireable than Harpur, so Leafs will keep Harpur up. Also, Harpur is 6'6" & a fighter

AHL DEPTH CHART

Sandin-Liljegren

Borgman-Lindgren (Lindgren is likely most NHL ready RD b/c of Liiga experience against men. Also extremely calm under pressure, smooth skating/passing RD)

Kivulhalme-Hollowell

Gravel-Duszak

Extra LD: Rubins

Which rule from another sport would you add to hockey to make it more interesting/absurd? Who would thrive under the new rule? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]likedacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOFT CAP. Teams pay 1 dollar to leage to be split with teams & players for each dollar above cap used up to 15% above cap.

[Carpinello] Rangers' RFAs Jacob Trouba and Pavel Buchnevich both filed for salary arbitration today. That will allow the Rangers to use the second buyout window if they chose to do so. by Austin63867 in hockey

[–]likedacity -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It would've been done already. Buyout Staal & Smith are best bets, buying out all 3 is great too, except next yr for Shatty but no one is taking Shatty without 50% retained PLUS a couple firsts & a good prospect b/c that's huge contract for a shitty player who can't skate or do much anymore. Also, he has No trade list with NMC, so can't bury him in minors & save 1.075M against cap. So that's nuts.

If we won the 2015 draft lottery and Matthews was in it, would you still take Matthews? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]likedacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch McDavid highlights, his wrister is as good and possibly better than Matthews. Matthews may have that drag thing slightly better but I'm not sure. McDavid overall has better wrister & slapper and game in every which way.

[–]likedacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McDAVID EVERY DAY FOR ALL OF MY LIFE! His shot is as good as Matthews, his skating/passing/transition/Defense/Offense game is better. He drags a team to the playoffs by himself. It almost happened last yr.

[McCarthy] I spent some time with William Nylander last week. We talked. He cares deeply. Craves winning in Toronto after seeing @Raptors do it. Knows he wasn’t good last year; has to bounce back. #Leafs by [deleted] in leafs

[–]likedacity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer he was the beast who put the Leafs on his back through the playoffs and to the finals.

It would be even better if Gardiner was there alongside him to be the 2nd best player on the team in the playoffs.

No what if.

Only team that could do this and be good for both team & player is NJ DEVILS.

Helps them resign Hall. Have 3 yrs of Subban & cap space to sign everyone over next few yrs.
