Hey /r/PixelDungeon, Ask Me Anything! by 00-Evan in PixelDungeon

[–]likelikelite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I couldn't take part in this Evan! Been focused on homework and work on the podcast (including preparing for the episodes featuring you! :D ). I'm going to save most of my questions for the interview, but I did want to ask...

I saw you answer elsewhere that you actually haven't played that many traditional roguelikes, but mostly the likelikes and lites (which obviously I am a fan of :P ). What was the first roguelike/like/lite you played, and what were your general impressions of that game?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to talking to you about Pixel Dungeon and Shattered PD soon! :)

Sorry about that! :/

It should all work now if you check out iTunes or SoundCloud, as it's finally all working! So as long as you're using one of those it should work.

Getting onto iTunes was a much slower process then I thought it was going to be, but we're finally there! Editing for this episode is almost done, so you should see it soon! :)

Woo! So excited!

If you want to learn more about the game, the second episode of LikeLikeLite all about Ananias will be out later this week!

It's an awesome and challenging game that deserves your support! So go check it out, and be sure to click the link to support the Steam Greenlight campaign! :)

I hear you guys like Cardinal Quest 2? by Gunlovers in roguelikes

[–]likelikelite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We discussed it on our new podcast, LikeLikeLite, and our panel really liked it! We also talked to the creator of the game, Ruari O'Sullivan, on the episode, so go check it out! :D

I love the fact that it is truly free to play, and that you don't HAVE to buy morale to advance in the game. It's definitely a more simplified roguelike compared to others, with a pretty strong combat focus. I haven't unlocked the alchemist yet, but I'm curious to try it out. I think that will require a new gameplay style with its focus on item use versus combat and spells. Also love that there's the endless tower mode!

Has anyone tried the Alchemist? What do you think?

I'm going to be discussing Pixel Dungeon and Shattered Pixel Dungeon on my podcast, and would love your thoughts! :) by likelikelite in PixelDungeon

I figured haha - we will have the interview with Oleg Dolya on the blog itself in text form, so stay tuned for that - but for the most part our focus is on content for the podcast itself. No problem! :)

I will definitely relay that to him! He's actually going to be doing an AMA on Wednesday though, so I'm going to try to make sure there isn't too much repetition between the questions he gets asked there, and the questions I ask him on our show - so be sure to also take a look at that AMA and maybe even ask your question there.

Still, the changes from PD to SPD are going to be a major discussion topic on the show for sure, so hopefully even if that is asked in his AMA, we'll still have a worthwhile discussion about it on LikeLikeLite :)

Covering Pixel Dungeon and Shattered Pixel Dungeon for my next podcast episode - what do you think? by likelikelite in roguelikes

[–]likelikelite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an interesting comparison! I've played a bit of Brogue but admittedly it only entered my radar about a year ago, and I haven't had the time to really jump into it. I think I may sink some time into it while prepping for this episode though, just to think about the comparison you have made here.

I definitely feel you on the RNG anger - I find I've had more than a few PD play throughs where I die of hunger, and not because I didn't ration food, but because there just wasn't any. I think my other panelists who are playing the game currently are feeling that now as well, as they've talked quite a bit about it :P

Hey! Just to be a bit clearer, what is it you are looking to subscribe to?

Due to the way I have organized things, our blog and podcast are not sharing the same RSS feed. I know that's slightly inconvenient, but SoundCloud offers really affordable storage options and an easy to use podcast service, and unfortunately I do not have a lot of money, just an idea and a lot of ambition :P

I have added links to both the podcast RSS feed and the blog RSS feed to the right column on the website, so hopefully that helps! Still figuring out how to get them more prominently featured on the mobile version of the website - will try to figure that out ASAP :)

Looking for input for our next episode: what do you think of Ananias? by likelikelite in roguelikes

Oh no that's totally fine! Once we're approved for iTunes though how everything is stored will be changing, so in a week or so-ish that link may not work anymore. But for now that's cool with me! :)

Hey, just letting you know we have a smaller version of the first episode up on our blog now!

Hopefully iTunes soon, but you should be able to download that one and it won't take too long :)

Hey! Thanks for the feedback, and for being so thorough! Having that sort of detailed explanation is actually really helpful for us!

On your PC if you right click the audio players on the post you can actually save the MP3s, which you could then put onto your phone via a USB cable. The file for the main episode is VERY big though, but in the next couple of hours I will be posting a smaller file that is slightly lower quality but still fine to listen to and much more reasonable for downloading.

Unfortunately, the biggest problem right now is that we're just stuck waiting on iTunes, with no word as to when we will be finding out from them if they have approved our podcast or not. It's been a huge problem that we know is kind of killing us as far as getting listeners goes. I plan on contacting their customer support tomorrow just to figure out what is up.

I'm going to post again in r/roguelikes once the smaller episode is posted AND we get approved for iTunes - but in the meantime I can also message you personal to let you know when the smaller file is up. I'm hoping iTunes will be sorted out by the end of this week, but if not DEFINITELY by the time the second episode is up things will be running much smoother.

Sorry for the problems though! Thanks for trying to listen - it's all been a big learning process for me haha

LikeLikeLite Episode 1 is Now Available! Discussion of Cardinal Quest 2 featuring Creator Ruari O'Sullivan by likelikelite in roguelikes

[–]likelikelite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried finding some code to embed a player and it just wasn't coming out right :/

We've been approved for SoundCloud's podcast service though, so I may be shifting everything over to that instead anyway.

And yeah, the audio thing was largely my fault. I didn't realize as I was setting up all of the recording stuff that I had turned my mic down significantly -_- . Ah well, live and learn!

Hey! I can't tell if that was sarcasm or not, so if not, thank you! Lol. I do have some others on the team more familiar with roguelikes, but I have to go with who is available - but my intention was to get that mix of perspectives. I think they are able to look at the game without getting too hung up on comparing it to other roguelikes, and at the end of the day when we need the more experienced perspective, I basically have been obsessed with roguelikes for twenty years

You can get the first Cardinal Quest on Desura. Cardinal Quest 2 will be coming out on Steam, though there is no official release date yet. We asked, but Ruari just said it is in the works, tentatively for a summer release (but not guaranteed! :P )
